I am looking to buy a nice 1g/2g AWD daily driver. My needs are that I need a reliable car that can carry a few kids, soccer gear etc, that's fun to drive and that I can sort of tinker with. This will not be my only vehicle nor my first DSM (just putting here to be consistent with other "Should I buy"?s). I came across this 1993 AWD Eagle Talon and would like any advice on any red flags or gotchas I may be missing.

What I need:
Reliable good running vehicle
Would prefer AWD as we get snow and ice in the winter
Space for 2/3 kids on an occasional basis
Trunk space to carry coaches soccer bag and small PUG goals
Something fun to drive, mid 90s, 5spd and tinker friendly

Here is the car:

Additional Information (which the seller has given without question and has to my knowledge been up front):
Exhaust leak at manifold (fixing with new gasket this week)
Valve cover leak (fixing with new gasket this week)
Customish exhaust with seller welded V band
Surface rust on under side of car (havent seen pictures yet)

Pros:
Has some nice mods of decent value (Link, wide band, engine refresh, clutch, and vsrf inter cooler)
AWD
Good body and interior
Solid running refreshed engine

Cons:
Poly mounts
Ebay springs
Tears in seats
Potentially small trunk space and passenger space

I dont really see any red flags. Please be my second eyes and keep me honest. I do know that DSMs defy reliability but my thoughts are that with the refresh and overall stock mods that it could serve me well. Im willing to hear otherwise. Thanks for any of your time, I truly appreciate the feedback.

To be clear I do understand the stigma behind DSMs and then being unreliable. I personally find it to be relative to both how the car is maintained/how the car is driven and the owner itself.

I too believe the car to be on the higher side and intend on trying to get the owner to come down a bit on price.

Looks like a decent car. I would imagine $3500-4k would be more the going price. You can have a reliable 1g, it's just a matter of being competent enough to replace stuff on the weekend instead of taking two weeks to ask everyone on the internet what to do. I hope you have small kids, the back seat is very tiny and will not seat adults.

My kids are between the ages of 9 and 13. I know it will be a tighter fit but I do not have my kids in my car often enough. Has anyone else had their children ride in the back of a 1g/2g? Complaints? I genuinely have no experience transporting my kids in one of these cars.

Looks decent to me. I DD my 1g for 3 years. Never left me standing. It's all about the owner and how you use it. Don't launch it and red line it everywhere you go. Expect things to fail. Do maintenance a head of time before it becomes a problem. Don't expect it to be a cheap car ( as in cost of ownership) as it is old and most likely exchange few hands and everyone had to do something to it. Expect the worst and hope for the best. My 1g was owned by BMW tech and I tell you he was not very good to it even though he was presenting it well. I don't like the color or condition of the seats but that is not a deal breaker. I will point out that the dash is not peeling which is nice. My opinion is that it looks good. Go drive it and try to negotiate. In today's world you can't really buy anything good for 5k so keep that in mind. Just because someone found some unicorn that does not mean that the rest of us will find the same thing. If you like it buy it. You will regret it later when you see other once and most of them will be destroyed. Also my sisters kids love my car and they fit just fine. About the same age as yours. Specially the seat belts. Also as far as trunk space, yes it is small but when you collapse the seats, it is a minivan. I hauled a Christmas tree in mine, suck to clean it after words but it was fun going on the highway with open dump and a three sticking out the back. I don't regret of buying one but I have a reliable DD. Just some random opinion from a random guy on the forums.
