Hi guys new to the forum and don't have a dsm yet but have been talking to a guy about selling his 97 gsx to me. It's one big problem is that it has surface rust on the engine bay see picture then rest of the car is sounds pretty nice. My question would be how big of a deal is the surface rust and how much is the car worth it has 160k on the dash but owner says he rebuilt the engine and transmision to factory specs look at criagslist posts for better description.

Another forum user has mentioned drilling out the strut tower spot welds and replacing. It depends on how far you want to go and what your knowledge is, this are NOT easy cars to work on and at this point finding one in a junkyard that has parts to pull is a miracle and finding the parts that YOU need is a godsend. Some places are more forgiving when pulling parts from a scrap. But that rust is pretty bad my friend I would not recommend buying that car unless he wants to sell it for cheap and you know how to weld and want a project car that will take a while to finish.

I'm all for saving these cars but some are just too far neglected sad as it may be ):
