I wonder if @Ludachris could save it? There are some other sites that he is talking about trying to see if he could rescue. Luda's a good guy and hates to see good info "lost".

That would be great. Doing it may be another thing, but I like the idea of having that info saved for others to use like you are saying.
Lets cross our fingers for it!

My first "forum" membership ever was on that site before I jumped to the turbo models. I loved that forum, great guys and great info. I haven't logged in probably a decade, but I had tons info on there I had posted about turbo charging the 420A under the same username. Like others, I'd hate to know all that info got lost.

Well, one of the main issues for that site is going to be the ancient software it runs on - just to give you an idea, DSMtuners was running on a more modern forum software platform back in 2002. It would need to be migrated in order to keep it secure and compatible with modern server operating systems. And there is no direct migration script available to convert it to the software we use here. I'd have to migrate it to something else, then to this software... there would be a lot of time, effort, :banghead: and money involved to make something like that happen. And that would just be to upgrade the forum software, we're not even talking about merging the data into this site so that it was searchable here - that's a whole 'nother project. When all is said and done, I wonder how many people would actually use it as a resource.

One would wonder if just a dump of the database would be sufficient to write a script that converts the data from their system to a format that could be ingested by this forum... but it would certainly be a project nonetheless. And one would also wonder how much of the info isn't already here - that would be a whole other project to determine what needs to be saved and what's just duplicate knowledge.

Yeah, that could be done - but so much comes in to play when trying to merge data into a site like this (duplicate user names, attachments, forum/sub-forum architecture, duplicate threads and information, etc). I don't know that I'd want to try to fold it in here and risk doing some damage that goes unnoticed until months later. I've had that happen before.

Yea - I mean, for users, I would expect you could assign a new user account (like 2GNTcom) as the poster, but I totally get what you're saying. This would really be a laborious task, with someone having to really go through and validate all the post data before merging.

Maybe all the non-turbo guys can crowd-fund some outsourcing to get the hard work done ;)

I thought about assigning all posts to a single 2GNT user too, but then it would be impossible to follow a discussion in a thread. If it were simply blog entries or articles, that would be one thing, but trying to preserve discussions where you find the informational gems throughout different conversations, you really need to see who's posting the messages to follow along.
