so ive been thinking about starting up a small business for myself doing custom an lines for people that arent able to build them and also possibly doing custom fuel systems installs, ect for local people as well. ive been trying to gauge interest to see if it would be worth putting my time and effort into this. what you you all think of this idea??

THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE/ BUY thread. no pricing will be discussed in here. just seeing what everyone thinks about the idea of having this offered.

i did post pics of some of the work ive done on my car.

Its a good idea if they give you the length and fitting angle etc but also cover yourself as people can be silly and order wrong as AN lines is not always easy to measure up and gt the angle right so make sure you cover that part as made to spec and no refunds given on wrongly measured parts.

other then that its good as they do this here in the UK for those that cannot do it properly

yea thats definitely going to be something i make sure to address when i start writing things up as i can only be as good as the info thats given. ive looked all over and havent seen anyone in the states offer anything like this plus i like building them so i figure why not.

Food for thought: a hydraulic crimper would allow you to produce lines that most individuals cannot...
Personally, I wouldn't buy pre-made lines if they are traditional screw together hose ends... I can cut hose and put fittings on (although some people cant). But, I cant crimp a hydraulic line...

I would swap to crimped fuel hoses, VC breather hoses, maybe even vacuum lines to WG/boost controller, FPS, etc.

that might be something i do later on possibly. i know that there are people that are willing/ can put them together but most people ive talked to about an stuff tell me how much they hate dealing with it. and i appreciate the feedback. its definitely something to look into on that as i didnt think of the crimped end stuff.

I think it's a good idea, particularly if you do something like the hydraulic crimping. Would be really nice to have 100% confidence in the lines. Fuel system stuff already isn't all that complicated, you're pretty much just taking away the hassle of stuff like fraying the SS lines and stabbing myself. Depending on the price, it's not a bad service at all!

One short-coming I can foresee that it's completely on the customer for measurements, which for someone who is purchasing your service, might be a problem (possibly not too mechanically inclined). If they measure something incorrectly, then get all of their lines and something doesn't fit, you have performed your service but the customer is in a pickle. Especially if you have a unique process like hydraulic crimping, it would be difficult/impossible for them to (for example) shorten a line and put the fitting back on. Obviously from a business stand-point it wouldn't be your fault but you still want to have a happy customer: Perhaps there is a way around this? i.e. Maybe the majority of the line is made with push-lock fittings on each side, and you include the ending-lines for both sides of varying lengths and possibly fittings? Would be cool to see a fuel system that you could easily play around with lengths and end fittings easily.

Very interesting idea of adding push-lock to the ends. Problem for me would be the additional leak points. The only reason I would want crimped fittings is to reduce potential points of failure.

I get what people are saying about customers measuring stuff wrong. Thing is, you can't lengthen a hose once its cut. So removable fittings doesn't do anything for you if they order it too short. YES it could be shortened if ordered too long.

I wasn't aware people were having issues with assembling hoses so I am ducking out on this one!

yea i totally get that. ive been playing around in the garage on ways to to have someone measure and it come out as perfect as can be. theres been a ton of thought put into this idea (ive been contemplating this stuff for months now). ive never been too fond of push loc hose on fuel. personal preference i guess. but that would make life easier for those guys. only issue i can see with that is if i do push loc the customer would have to purchase the pliers for the specific clamps used.

i am glad i posted this in here as you guys have given me alot to think about on this whole setup. i appreciate all of the feedback

i work in the tech department at jegs. youd be surprised the amount of calls i get where people complain or have problems putting an stuff together. like i said this is just a feeler to see if this would be worth venturing into. im personally not a fan of push loc either. ill run it if someone wants it but the regular an stuff is much better imo.

They’re lacking tools or knowledge if they can’t put an AN line together. :idontknow::D
I’m sure an average Joe would have a great time trying to get a fuel line in-between the subframe and the firewall.

It's a great idea and it's a convenient service for lots of people out there. Not trying to shit on your plans or anything, I just wanted to throw this out there... pre made hose assemblies are available from most of the major suppliers of an stuff either off the shelf or through custom orders. Also if you have a local shop that supplies hydraulic lines for forklifts, tractors etc they can build them too. My local shop Hydraulic Depot will even assemble the crimp type fittings for you with fittings and hose that you provide.

i work at jegs. all of our premade assemblies only come in straight hose ends in specific lengths. not really custom by any means. we dont do custom orders nor does summit racing. ive looked online for places that offered custom lines and didnt really come up with anything. youre not shitting on my plans by any means. i do appreciate the reply. as far as the industrial hydrualic shops do they offer colored fittings or is it just the zinc coated? to some that doesnt matter but there are guys that want that extra "bling" of the anodized blue, black ect.

As for my local hydraulic shop they only stock the plated stuff but like I said they're willing to use fittings and hose you provide. As far as custom an assemblies online Pegasus Auto and FPS are the first to come to mind. Summit does as well it's just something you have to call about, Speedway too, I'm surprised Jeg's doesn't. I've never ordered hose assemblies from them but I've gone through their custom order process to get a fuel cell tailored to my needs. Here's some links to those. But still if you were tailoring to DSMs specifically I'm sure you'd find a market. Myself and plenty of others are willing to buy from people in the community just to support fellow dsmer's.
