Which style Downpipe gasket will seal best? Im using a E316G on a 1G O2 housing to a stock 2.25" Downpipe.
The last 2 I used where this style, both looked like this when I took them off. (2 metal layers with some black substance between them. Opening is banded with metal). I had leaks :ohdamn:

Here are 3 types I got from Rockauto.
left to right - (1) Mahle, (2) Felpro, (3) Bosal.

(1) Mahle- 2 layers of metal with black stuff between. Opening is banded with metal. Gasket is separating in the package.

(2) Felpro - multi layer graphite. Opening is banded with metal.

(3) Bosal- 2 layers of metal with black stuff between. Opening is NOT banded.

I am using a 7cm, 6-ply multi-layer metal gasket from ExtremePsi for the manifold-to-turbo gasket.
They have the same style for the O2 housing-to-downpipe, but it looks really thick. Not sure if it will cause the downpipe bracket-to-O2 housing bolt to misalign if I use both of that style.

What do you guys think?

I have the Mahle, no leaks but i've only got idle time and some driving around the block. Otherwise, I'd get the extremepsi one but I usually have to have a shopping list to make it worth the shipping on everything.

Those ones I’ve had good luck with tightening, running car and heating them up, then retightening.
Until I figured out this sequence I used to pop those gaskets easy money. Lol.

I have the 6 ply on both the turbo to manifold and o2 housing to downpipe. Pretty sure no leaks.

If I’m being 100% honest. Was hesitant and Not really a fan of the 6 ply gaskets, but they seem to be working.
I think the very least they should be riveted / setup just like the head to manifold gasket instead of banded.

Mahle aren't great in my opinion, I used to use the felpro one and had luck with it until I couldn't find the right size at the parts store anymore. I ordered 2 Vibrant Performance ones from STM and haven't looked back.

Also I know I am a 2g guy but I use a 1g exhaust that I hacked up a bunch and rewelded to fit my car

I use Vibrant gaskets. They never look great when the downpipe is removed, but I can reuse them a couple times if needed. They seem to seal pretty well even with surfaces that aren't 100% flat.

Either one of them should work fine, but I recommend using copper spray on whichever gasket you use. I have reused gaskets numerous times that I have copper sprayed and none have leaked.

I use the copper ones...

It wasnt a perfect fit, but a bit of trimming and it works great. I have re-used it several times. Once the crush ring is crushed, I expected it to leak, but it is thick enough and soft enough that it seals up every time!
