clutch pedal is very soft at the top half and stiffer at the bottom half. It used to be stiff all the way I believe. I checked the clutch fluid resevoir and it was empty. I topped it up, let the air bubbles stop coming out, put the cap back on, pumped the clutch pedal a few times, and the clutch pedal still has a distinct half way point at which the pedal pressure gets harder. fluid resevoir now at max and remains there.

I watched the slave cylinder while depressing clutch and it moves steadily as I press the clutch in and let the clutch out, top and bottom half.. Also I can feel the clutch start to disengage the engine as I press the clutch, before it even reaches the stiffer bottom half, so the clutch is definately engaging and disengaging steadily as I press and release the pedal. What could cause the distinct midway difference in pedal pressure? Air bubbles in the system?

A bit of background, 5 years ago and 70,000 km ago I had the clutch replaced with an aftermarket unknown brand (centerforce?). It held great all this time until finally one day it started slipping on a hard pull, and has been slipping ever since. I can still drive around normal, but I have to keep the acceleration down otherwise it will slip at lower rpm's. It actually holds better at higher rpms, and I can just about hold 5 pounds of boost at 6000 rpms. without slipping.

Could my pedal issue be related to the pressure plate? I'm not sure if the pressure plate was replaced at the same time as the clutch work 5 years ago. It could still very well be the original pressure plate. I'm not sure if maybe a couple broken fingers could cause my pedal pressure issues or not.. could this be related to a faulty master or slave cylinder? could this issue somehow prevent my clutch from fully engaging making it slip?

I have already ordered an exedy stage 1 organic clutch kit and fidanza flywheel and new clutch fluid but I'm trying to make sure the clutch is really bad before I dig in.

Let me know your thoughts thank you..

You next step should be to bleed the clutch and see if that changes anything.

yea theres air somwhere in the system, i had the problem on a motorcycle i used to own, i found a banjo bolt under a fairing, cracked it, big fart came out, after that, clutch had perfect pressure

Was this ever fixed I'm having the same issue my uncle's who's been a mechanic for 15 years Said it could just be an aftermarket clutch could cause this either way I can't figure it out if u did ....can u pm me and let me know what could cause that thanks

Servicing your clutch is a 2 person job. Sorry, brother, but you can't do this one alone.

1. Have a bottle of DOT 4 Brake fluid in hand.
2. Fill clutch reservoir to the full mark.
3. Have your friend pump the clutch 20 times.
4. On the last pump, leave the pedal all the way down.
5. Loosen slave cylinder bleed valve.
6. Let out any air/bubbles until fluid starts to stream.
7. Tighten valve and have friend pump clutch 3 times.

Repeat steps 4-7 until clutch feels fine.

Drive the car and see how that works for ya.

If you have a slipping clutch, still, get ready to pull the engine.

You can do it with brake fluid and a 10mm wrench. On your own.

But yeah you can buy a bleeder kit. Just a small bottle that has a nipple on it. It comes with a line that goes over the bleed screw and nipple on the bottle. Then open it pump pedal a few then let it gravity bleed keeping the reservoir full. Do this till no air bubbles are seen in the line.

Did you ever figure this out?

It's a very old thread Jimmy. We all do this sometimes.....look at the last date.
I would venture to say they did or sold the car. Glad to have you participating!
Marty

Trust me i know. I've seen the date but I thought "maybe". Like most of these threads, they amount to nothing, I've found.

Are you having a similar issue Jimmy?
Why not start a new thread on it?
I'd be curious if the OP here just didn't have his clutch pedal rod adjusted properly and was applying the fork to the TOB partially all the time. Would explain the inability to hold 5psi of boost without slipping...
