As time goes on the 1g cars will have the highest sale prices for clean examples. The 2g cars build quality is what’s going to hurt them going forward.

Yep, and a stock 1g is a much better car than a stock 2g.I could see it going either way. The 2g is certainly a more iconic car than the 1g DSM - mostly because of F&F... You have brought up a good point.
I still think modded vs unmolested will be the bigger determining factor when it comes to price on these cars in 10-15 years. Even the most tastefully modded car is still modified, and that usually hurts the value of "classic" or "antique" cars.
My opinion is based off building at least 30 dsm’s 1g and 2g. I’ve also owned both myself.
The 2g door handles fall off, the ball joints fail, and the rear diff is held in with only 3 bolts. When you figure in the more modern but cheap and shared with Chrysler cars from the same era the interior of the 2g hurts it more than helps.
The 1g interior is representative of an era of sports cars. The 2g interior is an avenger.
They’re both great platforms to build on, but stock for stock the 1g’s were way better cars.
