So I failed a smog check because of the OBD Catalyst, OXY, OXY Heat and OBD Exhaust gas monitors were unset. I’m having a very hard time setting the monitors doing some “drive cycle” for my car (which is a 199 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST). I have been driving the car the past few days and monitors are still not being set. I have about 8 more days left of my temporary moving permit extension to get it to pass smog and get the car registered. :( Any help/tips on how to get the monitors set would be greatly appreciated! If more info is needed let me know.

I'm surprised that your car inst exempt because of its age, there was a service bulletin for the 2g not setting the monitors during e-check, you might want to look that up for reference.

Sadly my eclipse is a 99 with an older eprom ECU. Got rid of black box 99 ecu to be replaced with socketed eprom ecu with ecmlink v3. =(

You probably aren't going to pass the monitor set with the eprom ecu, BUT if you had the flash based 98'-99' ecu you could force the to show set with Ceddy mods.

I still have my 99 ECU but would I need tatrix 2.0 to flash ceddymods to it or could I just use the usb datalogging cable ecmlink v3 cable? My car has 1000cc injectors and modded do you think it would run without CELs or in general?

I got my car dynotuned about 4 days ago. I have a base map stored on my ecmlink. Would I be able to just copy and paste that map from ecmlink into ceddymods so it shouldn’t have any problems running?

I was also thinking of trying to use my mechanics dyno to attempt to go through the drive cycles of the monitors that aren’t being set. There aren’t many roads where I live that are straight, with not many cars and stop signs/lights to perform all of the drive cycles all the way through and safely.

My 97 GSX passed in Illinois OBD test with a 95 EPROM ECU.
It has link as well and evap and EGR monitors where disabled in that year ECU.

But here they are only concerned with misfire/o2 and catalyst not be disabled.
(other makes/MFG's tuning can disable some of the monitors )

But passed with those disabled here, I don't know if their emission test requirements are the same.
They may require all factory activated monitors to be active and set.

Drive it and check in the links config DTC tab if monitors are set.
Also make sure its not locked/box unchecked in ECM link comm mode in config misc tab.
That can lock them out from accessing/communicating with the generic OBD portion of the ECU.

Maaaan, I am having this same problem with my 99 GSX not setting the EVAP and EGR monitors not set. I imagine that its because I have the EGR blocked off, even though there is no check engine because left everything plugged in. Could evap be because I took out the charcoal canister?? Its a stock black box 99 GSX manual.

Being in Kali I think your screwed.
CARB is the worst.
You wont be able to set monitors without trouble codes without those systems working on a 99 4G63 car.

For EGR it looks at solenoid engagement/command and MDP changes within a specific window. Then it knows the EGR system is functional.

For EVAP it pulls vacuum on the evaportive emission system and watches the fuel tank differential pressure sensor for target pressure and bleed up.

So if either is disabled/pieces missing you wont be able to get those monitors to set naturally without failure codes.
The result of a complete test of a particular emission system pass or fail will clear the monitor
But if a failure is detected a code will be set = which is an emission test failure.
I don't know what exact readiness test smoke and mirrors can be done black box ECU's...
I do know that the federal EPA is well aware of what they consider "tampering" or to us tuning.
But they don't see the numbers of instances as of yet an issue to pursue those modified PCM/ECM/ECU calibrations. (except the diesel tuners)
I fear the day they do.

Anyone know the process to get the monitors set using ecuflash/ceddymods? I’m assuming I’m gonna need the tacktrix cable? Would I need to buy a Mitsubishi adaptor from their website or can I buy that Mitsubishi adaptor anywhere? Would I need to mail my 99 ECU to Ceddy or I can change it myself with their software?
