Attached doc has some of the basics of doing a 4g63 swap in a 3000GT/Stealth using 4Gswap.com mounts.

If you use a 91-97 dohc (turbo or non-turbo), the stock wiring harness can be used to make the swap about as plug n play as you can get. A 2g dsm has the same ecu connections also (some pins are different, so just compare and swap a few) and you could even run ECMLink without much trouble.

Works for awd or fwd. manual or auto.

There are currently 5-6 running swaps; including Garrett Chastain's 3000GT record holding swap with a 7.89 at 178mph. Wiseman @donniekak has also completed a swap for a customer (also built the record breaking engine for Garrett)

Fellow swapper also made a website with a drop down selection of year, engine type, trans, etc and spits out the info for your specific swap. He continues to update...http://4g63.life

Here's what's in the doc:

4Gswap.com Instructions

Congratulations on joining the crazy club of 4G63 swapped 3000GT/Stealths!

Since these are solid engine mounts, you will need to loosely install all bolts and nuts on your trans mount and 4Gswap mounts before tightening.

The driver's side 4Gswap mount has purposefully oversized holes that slip over the engine mount studs to allow for differences in individual vehicles. You may need to add a washer under your nut. Note: some aftermarket adjustable cam gears have locking bolts that protrude beyond the cam gears. Ensure that you have the mount positioned to allow adequate clearance.

4Gswap mounts were originally modeled from a 2.4l 7bolt 4G64. You can use a 6 bolt or 7 bolt 2.0 or 2.4, but will need a 7 bolt timing side engine bracket for the correct angle and mounting holes to the 4Gswap mount.

A 2.0 4g63 7bolt bracket has a lip on the inside that may interfere with your 4Gswap mount. Adjustments have been made to the 4Gswap mount to accommodate the 2.0 bracket, but you may need to grind the lip on the 2.0 bracket flush to match the 2.4 bracket which is flat with no lip. Lip pictured…..

To use a 6bolt engine, you need to install a 7bolt engine mount bracket on your 6bolt and trim the bracket for the water pump as seen here....

The rear roll stop is based on using the back of engine bracket with "195" stamping (awd manual bracket, MD136195). No front roll stop provided since it is unnecessary with all solid mounts and not all engine/turbo combinations could be accounted for.

We recommend a Maximal Performance solid trans mount. That can be purchased through 4Gswap or directly to Maximal.

Additionally, you will need to trim away your hood webbing to clear the timing belt/gears/cover.

*Note: individual setups vary. All combinations have not been tested.

Drivetrain:
  • 4Gswap mounts

  • Driveshaft: Front of DSM shaft welded to Stock Driveshaft (needs to be approx 1/2-1" shorter than stock driveshaft.) Or 3S JDM auto yoke welded to stock DS. Alternative: Custom driveshaft with a dsm yoke and custom length.

  • Front axles:
    • AUTO (confirmed to work with a 2G DSM auto):
      • Passenger axle: use 3000GT/Stealth fwd auto axle

      • Intermediate shaft: use DSM auto intermediate shaft/bearing/mount

      • Driver side axle: start with a passenger side 3000GT/Stealth axle. Then swap the inner cup from a driver side axle onto the passenger axle to create a shorter 26-2 inner and 27 spline outer. (Stock 3000GT/Stealth driver axle is too long, but the passenger axles is the correct length.)

      • Shifter: use 3000GT/Stealth fwd auto shift cable and shifter

      • Rear diff: use 6 sp 3000GT/Stealth Diff
    • Manual:
      • Passenger axle: same as above (fwd auto axle)

      • Intermediate shaft: use DSM manual intermediate shaft/bearing/mount

      • Driver side axle: Stock 3000 VR4 (or as above if too long)

      • Shifter: for a 1g DSM trans, use 3000GT/Stealth 5 speed shifter and cables. 2g Trans, can swap to 1g shift arms on trans or use 2g DSM shifter and cables. Shifter does not "bolt in"

      • Rear Diff: use 5 sp 3000GT/Stealth Diff

      • 2g Trans, use a 3S FWD manual trans mount that bolts to the trans
Electronics:
  • PTU: Stock 3000GT/Stealth PTU

  • Coilpack: DSM coils.
    • Requires simple patch harness be built to plug into DSM coils.

    • Depending on how harness is wired and 1g or 2g 3S, plug wires may need swapping (like a DSM 6bolt in a 2g.)
  • CAS, throttle body, temp sensor and injector (use 1,2,3,4) wiring can all be used from 3000GT/Stealth

  • Alternator:
    • 3S alternator will mount to back of block with a Jay's racing kit if kit is modified/cut and spacer's added to align the 3S alternator with 4G crank damper. Extend 3S wiring.

    • DSM alternator in stock location. 1G DSM alternator uses the same plugs as a 1G 3000GT.
  • ECU: 91-97 3000GT/Stealth ecu plugs are the same as 2g DSM. Pinouts are nearly identical.
    • 4Gswap 3000GT is using a 3000GT AEM v2 to run the 4g63.

    • A 2g DSM ecu will plug into 3S harness and could run Link for tuning. **consult wiring diagram of both 3S and DSM to confirm pinouts are correct and remove wiring from 3S that may interfere with DSM ecu
  • AC/Cruise control: unknown

  • Fan control: unknown
MISC:
  • Stock 4G intake manifold places throttle body at the same location as the 6G throttle body

  • Power Steering - 1G DSM PS pump confirmed to work and 1G DSM high pressure line will connect to 3S hardline if the hardline is loosened on rack and pivoted to the other side.

Thanks Eric!

I thought this would be a good place to archive the basic info for the swap, and to give swappers a place they can find out all they’ll need to know about their new powertrain.
