Hey all not often i get stuck on something as searching does me well but this has me baffled. I have watched many videos and tried many ways to remove the outer cv joint from an axle but its just not moving.

I can see a wiggle so i believe its not seized in but no matter how i try to get this off its just not moving! If there a trick to this or a tool i should buy?

Any help would be great

Thanks Bobby

Is it stuck in the wheel bearing or are you trying to separate the CV axle from an intermediate shaft?
Its the actual joint onto the axle shaft. So yeah i guess it is called an intermediate shaft as such. the inner cup i can get off and remove the 3 pronged bearing easy, but the outer cup i cannot remove from the axle and dont know why, i believe we have a ring groove on the shaft and with a retaining clip and im trying to knock it out straight sorta like the trans splines are but its just not moving at all.

As stated above a heavy hammer is needed if it's going to come out.

I tried a mini sledge, and nothing. I bemieve the retaining clip inside may be jamming it. Oh well. Guess i wont count the splines and get the data from it

What do you have in the works with axles, Bobby? Just curious!
Nothing LOL i just want to see if i can match up a part from another car thats similer for a newer part really,

I would love to custom some with bolt on inner cups but i cannot find anything that would work thats off the shelf so too costly to consider.

Im mainly wanting to take this all apart so i can fix my split boot and replace the others but also so i can see what else fits from other cars if any so the more data i can get off mine the better it helps me out

Dude, your curiosity and drive to develop is inspiring. If you aren't an engineer, you probably should have been!
I am an engineer LOL well im a welder / fabricator first then an engineer after them i guess

Well I know you Brits call Automotive Service Technicians engineers sometimes. What do you call the guys with engineering science degrees? I am so confused...LOL! What I am trying to say is I admire your problem solving efforts and your desire to know and understand everything. Those are great traits for either meaning of the word engineer.

Nah man, car techs are just mechanics LOL nothing more.

It so depends on levels on mechanic as the guys down the road from me are engineers as they do machine work too.

Technically my degree is an advanced engineering and fabrication/welding so i have some kind of engineer in the title haha

It took 10-20 HARD blows with a decent sledge hammer every time i've had to remove them.
I shall give it another go tomorrow and see what happens

Don’t know if anyone said it. There’s a clip at the end of the half shaft. The shaft goes through the ball and cage setup and at the end of the shaft is a clip so it can’t back out.
They are a F***ING douche. Once you have axle out. Use soft metal punch or drift pin or whatever you got (long as it’s soft —> brass) to push cage down to lift other side. Get the balls out then do it again and you’ll be able to get cage out now.

If you’re just trying to get half shaft out. Good luck. I’m interested myself. I murdered one in a Nissan separating it, (cut end off to see what the f*** was on the other side) and ended up just buying new.

if you put the axle in a vise and then you have to pull outward on the outer joint while hitting it with a hammer . it should come out with a few good wacks.

So it still never came off so im just gonna cut this outer joint off and count the splines. I think i found joints that can be used
