I'm about to buy a 97 Mitsubishi eclipse gst but I know nothing about them. What do I have in store for me. Guy says engine is pretty stock just has injen airtake srs exhaust and greddy blow off valve. Also says it's at about 140000 miles is that to much ? Oh and this is my first time on any kind of forum and it seems no one has been active on this for a while but I would greatly appreciate any feedback . Thanks in advance ✌

Welcome! Yes the platform is aged so activity is lower but the wealth of knowledge is still here.

The first thing to do after you get the car home is go through it and see what maintenance it needs. Belts, hoses, clamps, etc. Then read around and look at upgrade paths if that’s what interests you. There are plenty of well documented things that work... and don’t work.

Welcome. This forum is QUITE active so you found the best site.
With that many miles, a timing belt job is certainly needed unless recently done.
Look for old hoses, battery, check shock towers for rust. Test drive and then ask us anything else you may be concerned about.

You can see all the members online down at the bottom of the page... unless you're on mobile, I don't think we display that on mobile. There are usually close to 100 logged in members on the site at any given time, with close to 1k non logged in active users in total. Only 10 new posts so far today in the forums though, so it might not be the engagement you're used to seeing on sites like FB, but it's still pretty active around here, it's just a different type of engagement than you get on the social networks.

As for your question, lots of people have asked something similar to this in the past. I took a minute to click around and did a couple searches and found all of this for you:

Tons of existing info in here for you to benefit from that will give you a strong sense of what to look for in a DSM if you're looking to buy one, or just looking to learn about the platform. Read through those resources and then do some additional searches and poking around and before you know it you'll be able to answer the next person who comes through asking something like this. :)

Welcome!

Welcome Sweezy!!

Maintenance, maintenance and then maintenance. Oh and did I mention maintenance? :D

140,000 is about where most of these are at on average. Mine is a 92 with just over 130k. "It will treat you how you treat it" is my motto with anything.

If you enjoy reading/researching, the search feature is great. Select "more" on the bottom, and you can narrow your search.

If the car passes a compression and boost leak test along with having a solid body then you've found a good one!
