Hey Guys,

So I did something stupid yesterday. I was cleaning up my engine compartment and think I might have accidentally dropped a Q-Tip down behind the timing cover (I know, I know). The middle portion of the timing cover was cut out by the previous owner so there is an opening near the tensioner pulley making this possible, unfortunately. I'm not sure the Q-Tip even went down there, but I can't find it anywhere, so I need to be sure.

I'm going to remove the lower timing cover to either get the Q-Tip out, or insure it's not in there. I have the Factory Service Manuals and Hayne's and Chilton's repair guides. When I consult these guides for removal of the timing cover the first step says to find Top Dead Center. I'm assuming this is listed as the first step with the assumption that a timing belt job will be subsequently done.

My question is, do I need to find Top Dead Center if I am just removing the accessory belts, the crank pulley, and the lower timing cover? Just to reiterate, I am not doing anything in regard to timing, just removing the timing belt cover to get the q-tip out.

I have a 6-bolt swapped 1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD.

Thank you for any and all help

Ok, well I got it all apart and there was no Q-Tip in there :banghead:. Oh well, I learned a lot.

I got to the point of just needing to pull the crank pulley off and remove the lower timing cover when I found a mysterious q-tip sitting next to my jack on the ground. I assume it had finally come dislodged from wherever it was hiding and fell down from the vibrations of me working. I was so far along at this point that I just kept going in order to inspect the timing components, which looked good.

I am currently reassembling everything and have gotten to the point of putting the power steering oil pump pulley back on. However, I can't find torque specs for the nut that holds it on. I've referred to my Hayne's, Chilton's, and FSM's and can't find anything. I've done searches and only found the torque spec for the 420A. Does anyone know?

Wait! I was referring to the bolts that hold the ps pump to the bracket. What crush washer are you talking about?

See the pulley beneath/next to my hand? The washer and nut came off that. Is it ok to reuse this washer?

Good time to put a new o-ring on the stud.
