Hello, I'm new to the forums and need some assistance with this issue. Yes, I did a I search and found this, although my problem is slightly different.
https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/white-smoke-from-tailpipe.521617/

The smoke seems to only come out in a fair amount of quantity when the engine is at operating temperature. It's more of an issue when its a hot day. Now the smoke only comes out when about 3-5 minutes of idling occurs (at operating temp) and does a nice little cloud when I put her in gear and start driving again. After that, no smoke. The car runs fine and I never experience lack of power or overheating. Made a 100 mile drive both ways about a week ago and didn't get the smoke once while on the freeway or for the whole trip as a matter of fact. It seems to only come out while idling. I thought it was a HG leak but I'm not completely sure now. Any suggestions, I plan to check on the thermostat, rad cap, and lower coolant hoses later today. I do live in Cali, so throughout the summer I've been running straight water as my coolant. Never had any issues doing this with my past cars and yes, I always switch back to a proper coolant ratio as the weather approaches winter. Any help is greatly appreciated. Just a short list of what I've done to the car and the condition it was when I bought it, even though I doubt any of this has to do with it.

'97 Eclipse GST (almost fully stock, expect intake and exhaust)
191k miles on original engine, 160ish when I bought it a year and a half ago

Some done by me and some by the previous owners. The car only has only had 2 previous owners and me being the 3rd, this car hasn't seen a shop in while since we all get our hands dirty with our own cars.
- New brakes rotors and calipers
-New clutch and flywheel
-Timing belt looks fairly new
-New front axle
-Regular oil changes
-Coolant flush and refill (yes I burped the system)

Sorry for the !@@@$@# long post, just want my baby to be in top tier condition. This issue started about a month ago. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forums!

You absolutely sure its white smoke and smells sweet? Or is it very light grey?

If its coolant, your head gasket or the seals on your turbo are probably leaking. Didn't see compression test on your list, so do that and it'll shed light on the motor's health.

If it's oil, then it could be a number of things. Seals on the turbo, valve stem, etc. I'd do that compression test first to narrow things down.

And not sure why you're running straight water and flushing coolant twice a year- seems like a hassle. Antifreeze isn't just there to prevent freezing in cold weather, it also helps prevent corrosion and works as a lubricant for the water pump. I'd recommend a 70/30 or 60/40 water/coolant ratio at least, but you've been running straight water for years, so what do I know? :idontknow:

Hey there.. so I know my car does this same thing, but it is very light GREY smoke. It looks white but it really is grey. For mine it is the valve stem seals that are not sealing properly until they get heated up and lubed and then no more smoke. Could maybe be the same thing since my mitsubishi mechanic told me it is extremely common on these cars.

Dude NEVER run your engine without coolant in it. Your just asking for rust in your engine. You need to pull that valve cover and inspect your internals for rust deposits. Sounds to me like you have head gasket issues that havent fully developed yet. Pull your spark plugs when the engine is cold preferably first thing in the morning after it has sat overnight and inspect the cylinder for coolant pooling on top of you piston heads.
Question? Does a white cloud poof out on start up? That is the first sign of a coolant leak.
