I have always admired the eclipse, such a good looking car with curves in all the right places, I’ve been searching high and low for a gsx, the 4g63, all 4 to the ground, limitless potential, at some point I’ll have one, as of now I’m a diesel mechanic, have been only doing it for a year or so, I also work side jobs for a tow company, one night walking through there lot I noticed a dusty beat up rs, the tow company had pulled her from a empty lot abandon by her owner, supposedly it runs and drives, and before their mechanic lien comes through and they send her to a scrap yard, I offered to take her home. In a couple weeks I will have the title when the paper work is complete. Then my first project begins! I’ve been lurking these forms building this car in my head over and over, I’ve not got boat loads of money and I’ll have to take my time but I have a pretty good understanding of what needs to be done and how to do it at home, none the less I’m excited to finally have a voice and to be apart of this group.

I’m going to restore it to the best of my ability, I really don’t have much experience with performance modding, but if you have any tips about where I should start I’d be happy to have a starting point, I want to turbo down the road after it’s sound and running good, I have a brand new car for a dd, so I’m looking for a fun little weekend warrior, I want to go with forged internals and ms 2 but that’s for down the road, from what I’ve seen I can run 10 psi with a fmu, and a fuel pump, there’s a junked gst but from what I’ve seen it’s not worth a swap, so I’m gunna shoot for making this underdog a winner.

Swapping a 4g63 into a car built for the 420a is pretty hard, I wouldn't do it. You'd be better off just building on the 420a. Since you want to go Megasquirt later, I'd hold off on things like cams, because the car won't run too well until you tune it. Also get the MS before you turbo, so that you can get the most out of it.

Just to start off you can do things like cold air intake, headers, catback system. But just be sure to value maintenance before modification. It's better to have a reliable engine than a broken one.

Also keep in mind that most of the modifications you do to the engine can no longer be used once you turbo, since you will have to re-route the intake and exhaust. I think a catback system is what you should start with, since that can stay after you turbo.

That sounds like a good idea thankfully I’m in a small backwoods county that has no emissions standards or testing, so straight pipe unless it’s gunna sound to Ricey, what size pipe where you thinking? And Like you said I don’t want to have to replace a bunch of stuff and end up doing it twice post turbo, which is why I figured going straight to turbo would be good because after I got ms I could build off of it, I have access to a bunch of turbos big and small at work, I work with semi trucks and there are a boatload of turbos laying around some of the older twin turbo setups have one rather small turbo and one massive one so I was thinking the small one might work, or maybe something off of a newer power stroke, those are smallish, I haven’t seen anything about it though, I’m sure it’s not been done to much but I do know people buy our turbos from time to time to put on their cars so it must be doable. There are garrets, holset, etc. I know I looked up a larger one and it was a 76mm, what size would be good I want somewhere around 350/400hp also I’m gunna end up making my own exhaust/ manifold so I’ll make it so I can use whatever I find

Hey man and welcome to the site! Congrats on your first dsm as well. It comes with a lot of pride, but be prepared for a lot of heartache and money through the pockets too! Most people who stick with these cars still have them out of pure love and the joy of the drive. There will be days where you love it to death, and days where you want to sling a for sale sign on it LOL, just be patient, they are worth it.

As far as future plans for it, there is a really good thread in the frequently asked section and other sections of the forums about upgrade paths and first mods etc you should check out. It’s a very tried and true route and was created by many trial and errors of everyone before you. Above all too, don’t skimp on parts and quality. Time after time if I had only spent a little more money when I first stated I would have saved myself a lot of headache.

Again, welcome and good luck!

Oh and one more question for you guys if I want to ask more questions that I’m not clear on within the community where do I post it, I’ll I’ve found is this welcome board not sure if this is the place, this is my first forum account ever, I usually just lurk

You can click on the button on the top of the screen that says "forums" and then from there find the appropriate sub-forum. You will find an orange button that says "post new thread".

Welcome! Nice to hear another Eclipse was saved from the scrap yard. :) Best of luck with it, and enjoy the ride (both literally and figuratively). :)
