So I bought a 95 Talon that has been sitting at least 8 years. Long story short guy was in High school and blew the motor. He blew the motor in his car and ordered a imported "evo 3" motor. He could never get it running and went off to college and let it sit. Well I acquired this car and am looking to use this motor to revive another car. I have since found out the motor and turbo are out of a RVR hypersport. Yall teach me something on these. What is the good bad and ugly? Pics are about all I know so far

What I see is, the RVR intake, that is almost, if not exactly the same, as a EVO1-2-3 intake, which is a good intake for a 2g head. The valve cover is a sought after item by some since it says Mitsubishi and has the Diamond star on it. Looks like a normal TD05 14b turbo and an Automatic transmission and transfer case in the pictures.

I didnt think a 14b had dual fins? I have a stock 14b and the numbers are different but I could be wrong. What do you think about the manifold? Was told evo 3. Also I want to apoligize I should have posted this in the engine swap part of the forum. If I need to delete and start over I will.

Turbo looks like a notmal 16G perhaps 16g6 is i believe similer to a big 16g and 7 is 7cm the later evos use this type of lettering so it might very well be a turbo rehoused.

The intake if a real RVR is the same as the evo 1-3 but it will have a 54mm port for the TB so port that open and you got your self an evo manifold.

Exhausr mani looks like an evo and i have an old one in the garage i can compare tomorrow thats from an evo 3. Measure the outlet to the turbo and i can compare against that also

Thank you Ill get measurements tomorrow. So this could be a evo motor and not a RVR motor..... not sure what difference that makes but Im gonna try to install it in a 95 Eclipse gst. Then convert the car to AWD. Im just getting all my information together before I begin this project.

Has the block got any codes on it? Its hard to say if its an evo really,

Evo had high compression and i dont believe the rvr did

The compressor cover is a 16g from a RVR Hyper Sports Gear or HSG, I would assume that the rest of it is too. I doubt that you have an RVR turbo and an Evo block, but the difference between them is only really the pistons. Pull a plug and shine a light on one, what lettering is on the crown?

We need the VIN tag on the trans side below the deck to ID the block.

Not sure if you also got the transmission that matches the rvr engine, but on the off chance that you did, it would also have ID numbers on the top of the case and they would also help ID what RVR it came from, if you do have the rvr trans then you might have to,depending on what transmission the rvr was out of, change the center diff inside to match a US dsm rear ratio, or swap the rear ring gear and pinion to match the rvr ratios.

The trans came with the motor but I'm not sure what's on the car. I'll get numbers asap
