Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't a majority of Californians want the taxes and regulations kept in place? I don't see how they should be thanking him for this, it seems like a poor decision made for the wrong reasons.

This isn't about politics, this man has removed California emissions in essence, something that most car enthusiasts have wanted for years and years with no hope in sight, I dont care if he has a R or a D in front of his name, he is a man who is getting rid of stupid over regulation when it comes to cars, I see that you have made it political though, thats up to you to see it as partisan if you want, I dont and neither should others, the point is that at a day and time when the guy cant seem to do anything right, heres one thing that all car enthusiasts should all be grateful for, federal emissions are enough, no need for burdensome special state regulations that go above and beyond federal smog regulations.

Let's hope this doesn't get too political...

This, like everything else these days, seems more like a PR move in an ongoing (and bizarre) political war. As a car enthusiast, I should be excited. But I've found that these types of announcements don't always mean that it will work out the way everyone thinks it will. Legal battles will likely ensue and last for several years. And having grown up in CA and seeing how bad the smog was in my early years, which prompted the special emissions rule, I understand there's a bit more to it than the headlines and all the partisan rhetoric arguments that everyone is focused on.

In the end, like with most all of the other propaganda battles in this strange time we live in, it's probably better that we just grab some popcorn and see how it all plays out instead of getting caught up in the debates you're seeing everywhere else.

I would rather have cleaner air and figure out ways to make power in a way that can be managed by the only air filters we have..

Instead of 40,000 buick roadmasters belting out noxious fumes because of dead o2 sensors, running too rich to make any useful power. I bet theyre more stoked than any real enthusiast.

pollution doesnt give a flying f*** about state and country borders.. why should the rest of the world suffer. i say we find a way to contain region pollution to that region only.

if a fart can live in my pants for 10 minutes, surely we can scale globally.

I'm all for clean air and less pollution, but Obama's CAFE of 54.5 mpg by 2025 is basically like pushing the internal combustion engine off a cliff and forcing automakers to go full-on battery-only electric. Once that happens it's only going to be a matter of time before the push where gasoline burning engines are outlawed completely. We're going to end up there someday and Californians will be the ones leading the way.

I don't fully understand why this move was made, but I'm sure that the ripple it creates will rock the boat on other environmental issues.

Our grandkids won't be on a forum discussing what turbo or which brand of forged pistons, but rather how many windings of copper and how to bypass voltage regulators and shit like that.

I too am all for clean air, less pollution, and trying to spark a new age of innovation. But I'm also a car guy who loves the smell of exhaust fumes coming from an old muscle car from time to time, as well as various other cool car stuff that isn't always good for the environment.

I realize my hobby isn't great for the air we breathe, and I realize the automotive world as I know it will eventually change to something I'm not going to be very enthusiastic about. I'll just enjoy it while I can and as much as I can, while trying to not be grossly irresponsible. These aren't terrible times to be a car enthusiast, despite how strict CA is. Life is full of compromises.

man the sad part of all that electric buisiness, is no one seems to give a shit about all the emissions created building the damn things, or making the electricity. Just a solar cell has to live like 20yrs to be in the green.

No one considers all the energy we are releasing either. Climate change global warming CO2 blah f***ing blah. Lets not consider we release comparable amounts of energy from fossil fuels as energy as the sun deposits on the earth. Nope it's the CO2.

Use up all the resources fast as we can, new new new buy buy buy, ship ship ship commute commute commute. f***ing gas powered cars ruining our planet!

I'm f***ing tired of it. How much bullshit polition/co2/waste/energy is f***ing beer/sports/facebook/internet/phones using up on a completely NONESSENTIAL service. And they attack my f***ing car, that runs on renewable fuel.

The error bands in the climate estimates are larger than the projected temperature change. When Mt. St Helens erupted in 1980 it lowered the global temp 2*F that's about the temp gain they are worried about right now.

At our current manufacturing rate, and growth rate, it would take 100yrs to make enough solar panels to replace the coal plants, and that is making 3 big assumptions.
1. Solar panels will never die.
2. Our electrical demands won't increase
3. There is actually enough of the extremely rare elements on the earth to make enough.

Meanwhile lets keep letting all the shit countries make shit with no emissions laws, and then use a bunch of fuel and a dirty old diesel to get them over here, and a bunch more fuel moving through the country.

eat eat eat, then run run run. All the extra farming (fuel, emissions, heat) so we can eat like an asshole, then run in the gym, and turn all that energy into more heat.

f*** it lets keep replacing workers with machines that take more energy, then the humans can keep eating, and turning that energy into wasted heat at the gym. That will fix it.

It's all about putting money in someones pocket, not about what's good for the planet. The people in charge don't care they gonna be dead before it bothers them, and they don't care about the their kids anyway.

Everyone is too drunk/stoned/lazy to think independently so it'll never change.

f*** this.

I'm a bit cynical when it comes to stuff like this too. The powerful few who have all the lobbyists tend to determine which way the wind will blow (or not blow) and as with everything else, it's almost always going to be about financial opportunity. We don't have much say. I think it's always been that way since the first societies.

Doesn't really matter what the politicians say right now, or what emotional reaction the propaganda incites either way, it will depend on what the courts say and what the lobbyists push for just before the dust settles. That's why I cheering or fearing anything at this point is premature - about this, or many other topics that everyone is arguing about. Even if laws get put in place or changed now, they can change later based on what the powerful 1% want to see happen to help their investments.

I'll just stay over here doing my best to enjoy the things that bring me fulfillment as much as I can and try to not let these things bother me too much.

Nothing that anyone can do will ever be right in everyone's mind.

Enough said.
Why would you go and use the boring "to each his own" mindset?!?!?! That goes against what the propaganda pushers are working so hard to achieve! LOL The whole point is to get us all riled up and reacting about something strongly to help them spread their chaos. Civil unrest is big business. It's one of the reasons I can't get on social media these days - too many people I know are eating that shit up and falling into the trap every single day. If you step back and pay attention to it, you'll notice it too, and you'll understand why data has surpassed oil as the world's most valuable commodity.

That's why news like this doesn't get me too excited or too upset.

I hate causing drama, and participating in it just as much. That's not who I am.

All of this is redundant. People arguing about things online or in person will not make a difference. Some people find pleasure in this shit but I just find it a waste of valuable time, which I could be using for something greater.

Anyway, I've made my rant long enough already. All I was saying there is that no matter who it is, where they're from, what they look like, etc etc, they cannot do something that everyone agrees with. It is impossible.

Every single person believes differently about at least one thing. You can find 2 people that seem so damn alike, but deep inside they have one or more little differences. And a single "wrong" decision is all it will take to expose it.

No need to explain yourself Solomon, it was sound logic. I was just pointing out (in my sarcastic tone) that very few seem to take that approach, unfortunately. Most feel the need to take a side - and have been pushed to do so by those planting the seeds.

This is what I love about cars - they bring people together who would otherwise be focused on their differences. All the other drama gets tuned out (most of the time). People from all walks of life, helping others, supporting each other, and getting together to celebrate performance, craftsmanship, hard work, and achievement.

Too bad that won't fit in your signature box.
