Hey all. I have a 97 talon esi with the 420a engine. I had the cylinder head done by a machinist now I'm putting it all back together. I have all the timing components on and ready to go except for the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer).
So my question is for those of you that have done it before, are there any tricks to make my life easier installing that pulley?

He has a 420a. the installation on a 4g63 is easy, on the 420a, though, it requires some effort. I upgraded to an aftermarket pulley a while back. When I have installed it, I've placed the pulley in the oven for some time and then installed it onto the crank while still hot. It slides right on without effort. Go onto 2gnt.com and do a search on the topic. There are several posts regarding this.

I also have 420a. Once again, it's easy if you know what you're doing.

Oddly enough, putting these cars in gear doesn't seem to stop the rotation of the engine. It really doesn't matter what gear.

I'm not sure why this is but it never helps me.

Ohhhh. Maybe since it's fwd??? Maybe have someone hold the brakes???

I use a dead blow hammer and assembly lube to smack it back on, since it is only way it will go back on

you will need a Chrysler harmonic balance puller like this one to take it off if it does not go on straight but it is pretty easy to put back on

if the the crankshaft bolt can catch the thread it should sink it in but your risking stripping the threads so hammering is best bet for these also you will have to remove passenger side motor mount and lower the engine enough to fit the harmonic balancer under the frame that's the only difficult part about these balancer's
