After a heavy season of autox, I was inspecting the car after the last event and noticed bad gashes on the inside of the front DR tire. I see where it's contacting the inside wheel well but I have no idea why it's happening. I've ran these same wheels for 12 years with no issues. It's hitting on both sides but the DR side is far worse. The wheels are 17x7.5 with a 45 offset (I think). Tires are 225/45/17. Suspension bushings are all poly except the trailing arms.

Any thoughts?

Forgot to mention, at full lock I have a good half inch clearance from the tire to the body with the car on the ground.

It may seem like alot of room now but in compression you likely dont have any room! Have you also looked against your shocks? Mine hit them but also the same spot as you under motion. I also touch the front plastics some too,

Best way to find out is to take the spring off and jack the car to ride height and turn it and then go under compression and rebound in a turn and see exactly when it touches as its doing it in 1 of them cycles

That's a good point, I'll have to do that. I bought some 5mm spacers to try out
its the only real way to find out while in situ and you can see it with your own eyes that way. spacers will help and its also what im doing too and also 5mm LOL, mine rubbing on the shock/spring is not helpful when turning.

good luck and post up your results or findings

Back in my stock days, I had tire contact at that exact spot during a full lock spin out. Gouged a flap into the intersection of the tread and shoulder. This was a 235/40/17 BFG Race tire on a stock 17x6.5 wheel.
Very different looking damage from what you have, I don't think your tire damage was caused by that area on the frame with the rub marks.

The tire has 2 other spots that look similar to this one but not as deep so that leads me to believe that it's from the body. Also this car pretty much only drive to and from events. I can see paint missing at the pinch weld.

The spacers I bought didn't end up fitting because of the hub diameter, I'll have to machine them to fit this week.

The new region I run with now loves tight 180s, I don't remember hitting full lock during the event but I may have been damn close. It's possible I never had this issue before because I wasn't running courses this tight.

Bored out the spacers this week. I should be able to test fit them this weekend and maybe check clearance. Last event for the year is next week, so I still need to get the tire replaced with one of my spares.
