As soon as I finish up with this RS (which will be never), I plan on buying another little RS/GS/ESI to fix up. But this one will be different. I'm gonna go all out and blow thousands of dollars for reasons you probably can't see LOL. But I would like to hear some opinions on which engine I should build. My goal here is to make it as fast as possible while staying naturally aspirated. So the only 3 options I have thought of so far are these:
- 2.5 Avenger engine (94-00)
- 420a (obviously)
- Euro 4g63 (n/a)

My first pick would be the 420a but just because I've already laid hands on one and would know what and what not to do next time. But I've also read that the 4g63 is a little less limited in where you can go with it as far as being n/a. And the 2.5 would obviously be a little ahead of the game already. But with all this being stated remember that I'm doing a full build here, not holding back on any options. So whichever engine that will have the best TOP END power is the one I want.

I know what half of you are thinking. I've heard and seen it a million times LOL. But I want honest opinions on what you guys think is the better platform. And facts to prove or disprove each one. And also if you have any suggestions for a different engine also post that here.

Anything 4g63 is going to be a ton of work to drop in the car. I have heard of a few v6 swaps over the years, but I don't know what kind of power they can put out. Also don't forget about the 2.4 swap, it may be a good option.

If you was to do a 4g64 id suggest also to just find a gst shell. I know i made a frankenstein turbo 4g64 out of a gst shell just to drive to work in. It was a fun and cheap car, i wish i never got rid of it. I know your not going to turbo it but it would make it so much easier.

Make it easy on yourself and find a gst shell, sans engine, then build a 4g64 dohc combo of your choice. The parts availability for the Sirius/4g engine platform is unmatched.
Building an NA, high-power 4g however, is going to be challenging and overall harder on the engine IMHO.
For peak power, you have two options: displacement, or RPM. If this will be mostly street driven or DD, the I'd go for displacement and moderate rpm, i.e.- 2.4l/4g64.
If you want to race it with lower weight or have high rpm power, then I'd do a 2.0 long rod or 2.1 de-stroker.
Personally, I'd do the de-stroker for a NA build if you aren't going to daily it. With the larger bore (deshrouds valves for better flow), high rod/stroke ratio and some healthy cams, a 2.1LR de-stroker would rev like crazy and have a pretty fun power band. You'll lose some torque, but it'd be fairly unique and about the same overall cost as a standard 2.4 build.

Above all this, I'd recommend forced induction, or at least nitrous, because it makes sense, but I'm sticking to your NA criteria.

The Chrysler engines just don't have the support behind them to be viable, least of all the avenger motor.
Can always do a 6g swap from the 3kgt or newer eclipses, but that's more work and alot more weight for tq you won't be able to put to the ground in fwd form.

My 2c.

Nitrous is definitely a variable option. I considered it, in fact. But no boost though.

You can build a decent, everyday forged setup and use nitrous in demand, seems like the lowest-wear, highest-reward without boost, long as the tune is on point and safe. Otherwise boom.
