Alright, let's obv start with the car and initial problem.
92 plymouth laser, bought from a buddy of mine, sat for years until I bought it, just wanted something to do.
Here we go, car cranks over but won't run. I know my immediate response was to check fuel, spark, air and all fuses. All the fuses checked out fine, and they were all there.

Since I don't have a fuel pressure tester I just threw some starting fluid into the intake and sure enough it ran for 10 sec or so, signifying no fuel. Pulled fuel line coming from fuel filter, placed cup underneath line, no fuel in the line, but there was fuel coming out of the fuel rail? ( why? If bad fuel pump? Does fuel just stay in the fuel rail not able to flow backwards?)

So, grabbed a volt meter and checked the fuel pump for voltage. At the sensor and the pump. Got nothing. Pulled pump, and it tested bad so bought a brand spanking new one. Still... No... Start. And no power. Sooooo did some research on the mpi, ecu, and CAS issues. I am absolutely not the best with a volt meter but the mpi seemed to have power at certain pins. Ive read that I should be seeing power to the mpi and from the mpi. Regardless, I did get power to it and it does click.

So, Checked ecu, everything seemed fine, but the check engine light didn't go away when key was in the on position so, bought a refurbished one from a reputable dsm guy on fb for a decent price anyway. Still nothing.

The last thing I found on the forums was someone talking about a bad CAS not allowing the fuel pump to prime when cranking, but I kid you not, there wasn't much talk about it, like WTF. Does anyone think this could be my issue? Please, and thank you, my awesome ass motherfucking dsm friends.

The CAS provides the signal for the fuel pump to turn on. Iirc it goes through the mpi relay.

One way to test the CAS for signal is to pull it out and spin it by hand with the key on, just have your fuel hose in the catch cup when you do so.

Is your car turbo? I have the diagrams just need to know what submodel you're working with.

Shit, my bad I knew I forgot something. Lol No it's an n/a. You said to spin it, what exactly will this do? Kick on the mpi relay somehow?

If you just want to see if the poo pump works jumper the check connector. Its 30 sec and can rule out alot of stuff all at once

If this is a typo, hilarious...if not, it's even better ROFL

And extremely good suggestion!

So after research, I'm finding that the 1.8 lasers do not have a check connector. Anything else? Lol

Well crap. I made the assumption you were 2.0.

Yeah that was my bad. I really tried to give all the knowledge I could think of. I really didn't think the 1.8s and 2.0s were that different. I knew the generations were quite different but damn. Lol

Well, I found out what it was and figured I should at least let people know incase anyone has this issue as well.

When you find out you're not getting fuel, and you go to check for power at the pump, make sure your knowledge of how to use a voltmeter is adequate enough. Pulled the fuel pump again (the new pump I already put in) because everything else just wasn't wasnt making sense. Sooooo I applied power to the sensor coming off of the fuel pump thinking this at least has to work. And it didn't. Immediately scratching my head like WTFfffff!! This thing is new!!! So it turns out that the wires and connecter that connect to the inside of the pump hanger, and the actual pump, were corroded to shit. I DIDNT REPLACE THE WIRES THAT CAME WITH THE NEW PUMP BECAUSE THE TWO LITTLE TERMINALS WERE DIFFERENT.

Found the new connector, replaced it with the correct terminals I got from autozone, and it started pretty much immediately once I reapplied power to it. So yeah.... Always use the reffered equipment that comes in the kit guys. Total newbie mistake and I feel dumb af. Lol have a good one guys.
