I have a 1997 gs eclipse. It will start and idle perfectly fine, but once i start driving and am about to shift into second the car will just die and not wanna start again, Any ideas?

How does this correlate to your inputs? Can you manipulate the stall by changing the timing on your clutching or how you handle throttle during shifts? This ONLY happens during shifts?

Not wanting to start again makes it sound like it's dumping fuel to kill the engine, then since it's flooded it doesn't want to fire again.

What about the amount of throttle, as rnadman2011 asked? Is this only under heavy throttle, or light accel also? I believe the FIAV is supposed to keep the engine running when the throttle is abruptly closed. If misadjusted it might cause a stall. That doesn’t seem to explain a subsequent hard start condition though. I wouldn’t expect flooding, ether, though, as I would thing that wouldn’t cause a stall, more likely a backfire.

He's GS, 420a. No BOV. I'm not familiar with the Chrysler engine enough to provide good comments, but stalling when pushing the clutch in was one of the telltale signs of crankwalk on the 4G63. I can't think of anything else clutch-related. Everything else would be related to throttle inputs during shifting.

Attached is the fsm procedure. I’ve not done it myself, so perhaps others have some better tips. You will need a high pressure gauge, and a new o-ring when you’re done. Step 14 describes the check that the pressure does not drop after shutting off the car. I would leave it for some extra time to make sure there is not a slow bleed.

That is for the 4g63. O.P has a 420a.

There is a little black cap on the passenger side of the fuel rail. You unscrew it and put a gauge on it
