Here is the last day from me. Had a great time. As expected, I was in a very fast class that I couldn't keep up with but still had a blast. Don't forget, like, comment and subscribe. LOL

Thanks to everyone who keeps posting! Very cool photos and videos - this thread will be a great way for all of us to easily go back and reminisce about the event later.

When you upload photos, be sure to click the button that adds the "full size" images in your post. This way people don't have to click each thumbnail to view them.

Been attending since 2007 and the return of Max Effort prompted me to compete for the first time. Bought this '99 GS-T in March with the sole intent to autoX with my family for the year. Car came with lots of problems like RTV on injector seals and cork TB gaskets... Was on a 100% eBay 16g and FMIC setup with stock everything else. Put the car together to make each autoX then tore it back down to fix or improve after each event.

Heading into ShootOut the car wasn't happy with the eBay wastegate I had on it, wouldn't do better than 20psi and the diaphragm was pinched so the thing was trash. Received a Tial wastegate Thursday before ShootOut, installed and went for some street tuning. The tune was bad due to boost-leaks that had recently been corrected not to mention the leaky wastegate. WOT was okay at best but driveability and idle were trash. Didn't have time to correct so we loaded the car and took it to ShootOut knowing it would need some Mexico tuning...

Car had never gone better than 13.2X at 106mph, even on the slicks. Test and tune saw a 12.76 at 121mph, my first 12 and by FAR the fastest I've ever trapped. Qualifying for 12.50 Index and it went 11.92 at 124mph. We were trying for a solid 12.50....

The plan for Max Effort was to put all the autoX practice to good use then run slower in the drag portion. Worked out exactly as planned as I managed 2nd in class for the autoX but was the slowest car to be on a podium spot in any of the Max Effort classes. Still, the car went 12.4, 12.5, 12.6 back-to-back-to-back on those Toyo R888Rs and FWD. Good enough for 2nd place overall and I took the additional prize money as no-one else in DSM Max Effort was on Toyos.

12.50 Index was a blast. Round 1 I was paired against the "Baby GTR" Infiniti Q50. Dude was super cool! Due to an oil-down we chatted for close to an hour. During the race he pedalled and tried to catch me out TWICE. Barely caught him at the line the second time for the win. Round 2 I was paired against the blue Colt. The transmission was tired of my heavy-handed shifting and decided to break the 3-4 shift finger causing the engine to smack the 8k RPM limiter real hard and me to worry I had just oiled the track... Was able to drive the car off the track. Luckily, I had spare parts and the car is already back together.

Overall was the best ShootOut I've ever been to. The drag racing was much more fun than I anticipated. Cannot wait for next year.

Great post Shaun. Thanks for taking the time to share.

My goal for next year is to get off my ass and get DSMtuners decals out to all the members going to the event. I was able to get a few out this year but I waited way too long to finally get the new site logo set up for decals. Thanks to all those who represented the site with the decals. I also saw a few DSMtuners shirts too, made me smile.

Unfortunately my Tuners t-shirt died years ago and the hoodie I still have would have killed anyone wearing it from heat exhaustion. Haha

I'll be sure to bring the hoodie next year and hang it from the canopy.

I really wish everyone would find somewhere else that's good to put pictures rather than facebook/instagram/twitter.

Edit, that Devin Shulz car looks scary af. It was almost pointed sideways there at one point.

Good luck - that's where everyone likes to post them. It's easy to post there. We can embed them here for people to view in most cases, but adblockers will cause issues for some people. You can always disable the adblocker for this site.

Thank you for the reply and sorry, I don't want to derail too far here. This domain (dsmtuners.com and a few others this domain wants to load scripts from) is allowed to run scripts. I don't allow any social media domains to run scripts anywhere, so I'm just out of luck on this.

Ahhh, well yeah, then all of the embedded social media content will likely always be blocked for you. I wish more people would upload their photos here directly to help prevent this situation, but alas, that's just the world we live in now. Once we upgrade the forum software again I will be working on a feature aimed at making uploading photos and videos here (attachments) faster and easier. I don't know how much it will draw more members in from social media to share their photos here but it's worth a try, even if just on principle alone. People continue to flush good content down the toilet on those networks - oh well.

I just did that ^^ earlier this week for a very large forum that had over 200G of content to move. It was a huge job but got it done. I think I've messaged you about this in the past and I know you do your own work, but if you need a hand don't hesitate to reach out to me. I do this exact kind of thing for a living.

He suffered mechanical failure very early on. Hopefully he can chime in here and give more info @95GSXracer

True story. For the third year in a row some nonsense takes me out in Q1. :D On the first pass, which sadly was my first pass this year, it chucked a rod for no good reason. Naturally it exited stage left and broke my steering shaft. Luckily I wasn't to the 330 yet and only going about 100 mph, it stopped before it got too rowdy. Boost was super low at like 47 psi, RPM was only 8400, all data looked good, all spark plugs look good, I don't see any good reason for this failure. The big end of the rod is still bolted together and was in the containment pan, the small end of the rod and wrist pin are still in the piston, but the beam was sitting on the track. Side note about the track, it was incredibly sticky. When we jacked up the front to dolly it off the two front tires picked up the rubber and left two bald spots where they were.

That really sucks, Kevin. Especially when you can't find a good reason for the failure.

Thanks for filling us all in, I've been following your cars progress for many years and can't wait to see it run its full potential again. good luck next year!

It's hard just sitting on this thing so long, but right now we're just dumping all our money into the dragstrip. Next season I hope we're out of that mode of operation and I can start to enjoy having a track in my backyard. Whenever that comes, I'll be able to get a ton of testing done quickly and make up for some lost time.

It is a full quarter mile yes. This is an existing track, Marion County Raceway in Ohio, that we bought last year. It just takes a lot of time and money to feed a hungry dragstrip. I've had my Mighty Max down it a few times this year but that's about all I've had time for.
