This event is something I look forward to every year and each year we see the numbers dwindling down. Buschur added the GTR class to bring in more cars but there are a lot of other events that draw the GTR crowd away. I know DSMs are a dying breed but the event is amazing and is a great place for the long term enthusiasts to meet up.

I was wondering if there has been any discussion or possibilities of opening the event up to more cars to fill the current classes and possibly bring in more attendees. It can still be a main event for DSMs but get lined up against non DSMs would be fun in that venue as the crown will be cheering for the DSM!

I guess this is just a concerned DSMer trying to keep a great event going. Any thoughts or people with an “in” knowing the workings of the event?

I sincerely think that dsport buying it was a nail in the coffin. This is an event that shouldn't be about the money, and it wasn't when buschur had it, now with dsport at the helm they have to make a profit. They are not going to make that profit with dsm/evo in the spot light, they are going to have to keep it heading toward GTR, and other more profitable platforms.

It seems like DSport showed up with like 3 guys to run the event. Seemed like track crew handled most of it, and they really had a IDGAF attitude. The schedule was f***ed, they canceled qualifying sessions and tnt without really telling anyone, then had tons of dead track time, and quit early both sat and sunday. It's like dsport was paying for track rental by the minute, and didn't want to pay for an extra second past what was needed to get GTR quick and Q32 done. They had 1 guys to handle the tech and parings in the lanes, for all classes and they really should have had 1 per class.

My self I think that the event should head back towards it's roots, more focus on the DSM/EVO/3S. There were no where near enough GTR's there for the amount of classes they have, plus they have their own events. In general though I think there is too many classes for the car count and the time alotted.
Personally, on the DSM evo side I feel like ProRWD and Q32 should be combined into an "outlaw", and capped at an 8 or 16 car field. No offense to anyone, but there's really only 3 competitors in Q32, and they are all faster than ProRWD. So that really works out.

ST32 should be opened up to allow nitrous, and let the slower Q32 guys in.

SE should be weight/inducer limited to keep it around a 10.0 class, and keep street car guys and NHRA happy.

SA should be street radials and bolt on 20g max - no more of this full on 35r in a mitsu flange shit.

Indexes should be 11.50,10.0, 8.50 - anything faster than 11.50 requires a diaper/catchpan.

I think this would create less classes, more competition, more racers, and more time for tnt.

Anyway, remember guys, one of our own now owns a track not far from norwalk, and we as the racers/spectators have the ultimate say in what happens.

I felt like finding information on the Shootout this year was painfully difficult. I could find the price list immediately, but it took nearly 45 minutes of searching to find a schedule (why do I have to sort through old Facebook posts for this) and I didn't figure out what Max Effort was until I looked through historic results and drew my own conclusions. I couldn't find a description of all of the classes and i was never able to confirm if non-DSM/Nissan vehicles were welcome for autocross. I never figured out what the "car show" was on Friday so I skipped and showed up Saturday only. Pricing at the gate didn't match what was posted online and I still had some unanswered questions after I'd already gotten my wristband.

I think that so many people are used to the way that things are done that they forget that people are still trying to attend for the first time. This wasn't even my first Shootout and I was shrugging away questions that I didn't have answers to. This all made it way less inviting than it should have been.

The Autozam is always fun to bring out but I'm desperately hoping that next year will be the first that I have a running DSM for the month of August. I'm going to get an earlier start advertising to my local car clubs so hopefully I won't have to come by myself again.

You say this because you know I just upgraded to the DSM82? Haha Knew deep down you were salty about it!

But I totally agree, I shouldn’t be able to run a 35r and compete in the SA class. I never understood that and wouldn’t mind the change.

I do agree on dropping the GTRs as it seems they are pushing those more than what the event was made for. If GTRs are here to stay, then open up racing for other platforms to get people to come.

Dsport better do something or else they bought an event that they will run in to the ground.

I guess I'm partly to blame there. I was a die hard supporter of the original "stock appearing" class - no visibile FMIC, j-pipe, full interior, radials, etc. Then EVOs came along with red/black turbos that looked stock and were allowed in the same class, effectively negating the odds for a DSM. It morphed into a stock appearing turbo class, meaning anything goes as long as the turbo looks stock, which then turned into a conversation with Buschur about the FP cast housings, the fact that the FP stuff for EVOs has a visibly larger, though still J pipe style, comp cover, etc and that to make it fair, I suggested (somewhat sarcastically) that he should just allow anything bolt-on flanged to compete. The spirit of the original stock appearing turbo, full interior street car class was already long dead anyway. That being said, I'd LOVE to see a proper stock appearing class return with more strict rules.

I wonder if there is any chance that Dsport would even listed to suggestions. I mean they have to see that numbers are low.

I got eliminated from the 10.5 index because I never heard a call for second round of eliminations, others said they never heard the call either.

I stated this on facebook:

I come more to meet up with the people and friends I only get to see once a year, worth every second of the trip. Some say it is slowly dying, I don't think so, the OG's are still there and new people are still coming. The only way it will die is if we don't go, WE are the Shootout.

TLDR: The Shootout is Priceless, it can only die off if we let it.
