I upgraded about 6 months ago to Duralast Gold 'high carbon' brake rotors using autozone semi-metallic pads and braking seemed much better over regular autozone rotors I had on there (that warped quite easily) and now these better rotors are warped already too!

Car is 1g FWD 5-speed so curb weight is only about 2800 lb and I'm not super hard on these stock brakes either. But I'm on a budget so is there any good options? Will Centric 'high carbon' rotors make any difference over these autozone 'high carbon' rotors? (These + centrics are the same weight which is about 1 lb heavier than stock rotors) Was thinking about trying ceramic pads next time but then read they're more harsh as far as causing warping goes :idontknow:

I put a new oem set on mine and they are still good after a few years of 130mph drag passes. I have the big 276mm rotors though. MachV has them for like $50. I just put Bosch quiet cast on my truck and the seem to be holding up ok.

I find that most cheap rotors that you can find at most auto stores are garbage and warp easy. Lately Ive been able to find Brembos for cheap on Rockauto's website. No issues with them so far.

Rock auto doesn't list Brembo's for 1g dsm's.

They have Centric 'high carbon alloy' for cheap ($38) + Power Stop rotors but they're drilled + slotted and really don't want crossed drilled either.

Maybe my autozone semi-metallic pads aren't too good like already mentioned.

Stay away from any rotors from China. They use poor quality steel that warps easily when getting warm (personal experience). The auto stores know where rotors come from if you ask. USA and Canada are ok.

You will see no performance gain using high carbon rotors for your application. The regular Centric blanks will perform nicely. Be sure to follow the bedding procedure of your new pads to get the most out of your new brake setup. You may also want to consider a good bleed of your brake system as it is often overlooked.

Ceramic pads are not that great, i run them over stock for now and well i get horrible fade and it comes so fast aswell 2 hard brakes kater and i cannot stop! Everything else is fine and its the pads.

Warping is due to alot of things but the main one is the length of time a pad is in contact with the disc IE pad drag kinda like what people do when driving on the roads they will break really early this causes alot of friction and heat for longer periods of time and thats what 75-80% of warping is pointed too! It can be cut down but it means breaking late and on a road its not always easy to do or advised either.

Slotted might help the issue but the overall fix is good discs from the start and grooved but not drilled as they tend to crack from constant heat/cold cycles

Pads of street nature wont be a major issue but again it wont help having a pad for fast road track which gets very hot of crap discs!

My choice would be the EBC discs! Ive done several track days on them and although the pads up front suck my rear pads are not ceramic and they have not warped at all! I also used to put EBC dics (uprated and stock) on cars i serviced and even my own daily and they are all happy and no one ever complained about warpage at all!

Hope this helps abit towards getting this resolved,

I use the same set of ebc front rotors since about 2009 and no warp at all, very good rotors.

Ceramic brake pads dust less and leave almost no visible dust, but will wear rotors faster. They are also not the best choice for high temp/high speed braking.

You mentioned Autozone semi-metallic pads, but they only options I see (maybe it's just in my area) are organic and ceramic.

Anyway, first thing I would do (as was mentioned already) would be to take them back and get replacements. Follow the proper procedures for new brakes, and make sure your lug nuts are torqued to spec.

Best way to prevent this..... upgrade to the big brakes with dual piston calipers.

i like brakeperformance.com's products. have used them on my current 1g build, as well as my MB SL500.

Went with the silver zinc dimpled/slotted on the SL:

Brembo OE replacement blanks and Hawk HPS pads. Got mine from tirerack.com and the rotors were $37 each.
Ive had a few friends run brembo blanks and they have said they warp on them after a year or less. They are not impressed with them, i cannot personally say as ive not used them but when i was looking for stock-stock replacement they said dont bother. So i went with centric and well they warped after a few years till i went EBC and DBA! Perfect for 5 years or so

Maybe the pricier Brembos are different but my stock Brembo replacements warped in 7 months. On the box it said Made in China which says it all. And of course no warranty or returns allowed.

I don't think the factory front brakes were ever up to the task. Upgrading to the dual piston calipers was one of the best bang for the buck changes I ever made to the car. I went from rebuilding the front brakes every 20k to just changing pads when they wore out and the car actually stops with any drama.

I suggest you look into upgrading before spending any more money on the stock brakes.

Autozone sells them now with a 2 year warranty. I’ve had mine a year with countless brake boosts per day and many stops from 130+ to 40-60 mph
