Good evening all,

Today I went to see a car with a 2.4l engine, I don't know if it is a 4g64 or a 4g69.

The timing belt snapped at 159k kms, and according with the service sheet it says there might have been damage, but everything seemed OK. The car is now 215k kms, and I'm well aware of the issues that can present with a snapped belt, but it's been 55k kms (34k miles), so I believe everything is OK with the engine? I test drove it and all seemed fine.

Thank you for your help

Look up the service interval for that car. Should be at least 60k miles.

Yes, it is, every 60k miles, but it snapped at 99k miles, and it has been 35k miles since it snapped. My question is, after all this mileage, do you think there was damage to the engine?

If its still running, I would say no damage. A 4g63 is an interference motor but maybe the 4g64/69 isn't other wise I would always expect valve damage at a minimum. If it is running right now, it was repaired correctly, or it wouldn't be running at all, in my experience.

I know the 64 is interference engine, but I believe the 69 is also (I don't know which engine it is, its 160 hp, so maybe its the 69).

Thats what I tought, it would be running now, but from the invoice they did not repair any valve...

If it runs fine then I'd say there's no issue. Worst case, take a bore scope down the spark plug hole and look for valve marks in the pistons. But honestly I'd say it's fine.

Unfortunately I have no way of doing that, but that's what I thought

I have no reason to suspect it's bad if it's been running fine for 35k since the repairs.

My 90 laser was sitting for 6+ years, and after a fuel pump and rebuilt ECU, it fired up fine. The PO had the head and t-belt done after it jumped time, but I can discern no marks on the pistons myself.
Car runs great and everything looks excellent, so I have no reason to change things. I may look into replacing the belt due to time though.
Anyway, in your situation I think you're fine.

69 is interference. My sons lancer has this. That's why I got it so cheap.
