If its a 2g not so simple its ecu controlled by a thermistor, if its a 1g its just a switch in the coolant passage that turns on and off so that would be more simple. Is there a reason you need to take over the fans?

Thanks, Matt! It’s a 1g. It gets hot if I sit in traffic. I’ll draw a diagram to make sure it’s correct.

Hmm, it looks like you'd be putting in a manual switch after the thermo-switch which would still make you beholden to the thermo. It sounds like you would want to your switch to be separate from the thermo-switch so that it works at any time. However, I still don't get why you would need this. Either figure out why the car is running too hot or get a lower-temp thermo-switch. You could also relocate the switch to the thermostat housing where it will most likely come on sooner because it's closer to the engine.

I relocated my old thermoswitch to the spot with the plug:

I replaced the stock radiator and p/s fan to Mishimoto since it was leaking. Never had an issue before with it getting hot. I thought it was the thermal switch so I swapped it over...same thing. I don’t the Mishimoto fans are pulling enough. So I want to try a switch before swapping the fan.

I moved it to the thermostat housing site with the plug as shown in my picture. Some of the mishimoto fans are just gloried ebay fans. Go high quality fans and you should be fine.

That might be the route. I was looking at spal’s website yesterday and there were so many damn 12” fans that I just stopped looking since I was on my phone.

I'd say either go back to stock fans if they will fit, since they are some of the best performing fans for our cars, or get some spal or whatever high quality fans you want.

Stock fans really are the best IF you can fit them, but I'd go spal or even find another OEM style fan to try and fit. Could also run the stock passenger side fan and redo the shroud so it pulls from the entire rad

The mishimoto fans have a long list of complaints from what I've seen.

16759 derale fan switch
works like a charm.

I see this unit is adjustable. Will the thermal switch still turn on the fans? From reading the instructions, it looks like we can leave the thermal switch connected.

I do still have both fans but I can’t use the drivers side (ac) because the ic pipe gets in the way. Mishimoto rated this fan to pull 1150cfm each and I don’t believe it. Think our one stock fan pulls 1600cfm.

I guess I still don't see the point. You could invest that $60 into a nice fan upgrade. There's no reason that car should be overheating.

Yea I highly doubt they pull that much, and if they do they'll need a shroud vs being zipped to the rad.

Let us know how the derale switch works!

I will update. Think the shroud will work for local but restrict flow on the highway. Eric (velocity lab) has a video fighting the same issue but his was slightly different since he upgraded turbo and manifold.

If I can get this set up to work for $60, no need to spend $300. I’d love to throw two spals on it and call it a day. Just spent $420 for driveshaft rebuild parts. Money doesn’t grow on trees Vegas! :nono:

I agree with the others. Your problem is the fans not the switch.

I agree with it being airflow, since it's only an issue when in traffic. What I did as far as as my shroud to gain some space is I mounted the fans on the inside.. Had to modify the fans a little (cut and sand the plastic tabs to make a smooth circle) to make them fit. Your IC pipe looks like it may be an issue, but, not sure how much slack you have on it, as well as space to make it all fit.

Although I do like how the slim fans free up room and also look in the engine bay, I'm installing the stock fan for now. Save up for 2 spals.

Anyone running 12" spals? If so, which ones do you run? Part number please.

I had to trim the d/s fan a bit to make it fit. Now there's about 1/4 inch of clearance. Not much slack on the IC pipe. I did loosen it when installing the fans.
