So I went to a place that specializes in oil changing. I go there, the car is ready to go and then I get news telling me thats a dent right where the drain plug is. So guy tells me, it would be trouble to get it out and probably back in. If hes not able to put it back in, he would need to take $200 from me to order a new oil pan from the dealership. I basically showed him finger and left.

Got myself an oil pan for $40 on ebay, for my car. I dont need more bs from these assholes who think they know better then average people.

What oil should I fill a 98' eclipse RS? how many quarts of it? and what filter I should buy?

In a RS whatever you want, any local parts store can tell you how many qts. I GST holds around 5 I use moblie 1 5w30 full syn in my rebuilt motor

you say RS as if they have a different type of motor then a GS. I dont know if it makes a difference if I have manual tranny or A/T.

I need like a recommendation of what to get. I dont need the greatest oil, but I need something good.

and filter wise? does it matter?

Re-read his statement... There IS a different motor in your RS than his GST.

My old 97 RS i used Castrol or Penzoil, or whatever was on sale that day in 10W30, about 4 1/2 qts qive or take

My GSX only gets Mobil1 since other oils make the lifters like to sound off.

He says "RS" because it's different than a GST/X. Go to Walmart and buy a 5qt jug of Mobil1 Synthetic 10w30 or 5w30 ($20-25), get a decent filter (Fram is fine, Purolater, Wix, Mobil1, K&N, whatever), and put in four quarts. Turn the engine over. Check your dipstick. Add as necessary.

well I know that a GST is different then an RS. but I said what difference does it make if its a "GS" or "RS"

but thank you all for the help. Ill get right to the job once I my oil pan gasket comes in.

I am sorry there is no difference in the RS or GS motor. Whatever is on sale I would run in it. I wouldnt use the cork style gasket either they are prone to leaking I normally clean up both surfaces well then use a nice bead of permentex torque dn evenly and your done.

+1 on the fram filters. I worked at a remanufactureer of engines in the performance dept and we tested some filters the frams alot of times would recert with no filtering as soon as you cranked it over. wix were good quality, napa like was already said and something funny the supertech from walmart brand a few others but don't remember. never would have quessed but super tech was made in the usa. Might double check now it has been a few years ago.

I always go to Walmart and buy a 5qt jug (10W 30) of what is on sale, usually about $12. The engine in the RS will take 4.5qts. Then get a filter of your choice. The Walmart that I go to actually has Mopar filters but I have never used one. I have used the Fram extra gaurd for my last couple oil changes and have not had any issues. Before that I always used Puralotor filters.
