Hello World! This is my first post. :)

I'm new to the forum, but have already found it to be a very valuable resource. Thank you to all of the contributors, moderators, and to the site owner for all of your hard work!

I finally bought my first Eclipse, a 1999 RS which just completed It's 2000+ mile journey from Arizona to Michigan on the back of a car hauler. It is in great shape, and almost completely rust-free having been an Arizona car for its entire existence. I am the third owner, and am thrilled to have it. I have wanted an Eclipse for a very, very (very) long time, but timing and opportunity just never aligned for me, until now.

I don't have a large wish list for my Eclipse. I intend for it to be a garage-kept, winter-stored, summer time hobby/cruise car, and at this point in my life, that's all I really want it to be. I will be adding a few GS trim level parts to it, but beyond that I am thinking about changing the rims and MAYBE the color at some point. (My apologies to the red Eclipse super fans, but It's not my favorite color.. although I've seen some REALLY nice looking red 2gb's on this site, so who knows, maybe you can change my mind? ;)

Well anyway I just wanted to stop by and thank everybody for the great & helpful information. I enjoy reading about your builds, and look forward to working on my own restoration project here very soon.

Car looks in great condition. I hope it stays out of the winter elements while in Michigan. My Galant is from Michigan it was not nice to her for a bit but working on restoring her. Glad to have you on the forums!

Thanks! Yeah, this car will definitely be tucked away in the winter months.

Unfortunately Michigan winters rot cars up here. It's because they put salt down to melt the ice.

Salt and ice arent the only hazards in a Michigan winter though. Mice enjoy cars too, especially when the engine is warm. :toobad:

Yeah, Michigan is a great place, and big into automobiles, but it is not a friendly climate for them, that's for sure.

Good luck with the Galant, and make sure you appreciate your California climate this winter LOL. ;)

Yep. Lucky I only have a little surface rust on a few items of the car. The California weather helps keep it niceish the 100+ weather doesn't help my dash or seats.

I hear that. This Arizona car has sun damaged paint and some of the seals look pretty rough too. A few interior components didn't fare so well with the heat either.

I guess our choices are either salt damage or sun damage huh? ROFL They both suck for sure, but at least you can replace interior trim and repaint damaged surfaces, but unchecked rust can really kill a car. I was looking at a GS-T a few srates over, before I settled on my RS, but the rust was too far along for my ability to be able to restore it. It's a shame too, it had really low miles. Too many good cars go bad up north.

Glad to hear yours is only surface rust and that you are on top of it. How is the suspension and rims? Our roads are notoriously crappy. Like the stuff of legend. Ironic that Michigan is shaped like a hand, because it will slap the crap out of your car.

I'm on Feals coilovers, full Polly suspension bushings, white line sway bars, 18x8.5 245/35/18 tires. The ride is comfortable. A little bouncy at times depending on how the road is. California has some terrible roads in some areas. Galant parts are super hard to find for interior prices. You have to treat everything like glass when removing things.
