For those of you that know the Zeod, it got ~400hp from an 88lb. 3 cylinder block. It occurred to me that their HR12Dxx line of engines might be suited to building a 400whp diesel from it. Why would it work? The engine is well balanced and can rev to 8800rpm without blowing apart. Its stock compression is 13:1, it's direct injected and it has VVT with a good ECU.

@rabenne
We're quite a long way from there at this point. I posted this to see if anyone else saw the potential like I do.

yea, I can imagine. The engine has potential. Is it a good swap option? That remains to be seen. Cant wait to see what you do! I am guessing the price tag will be prohibitive.

There are going to be some pricey items (>100lb/hr, wide dispersion injectors, 60gallon/hr, 60psi fuel pump, etc.) but considering what you'll end up with price/performance wise, I'd say it's a bargain. The engine weight savings alone will make a mundane car an 8lb/whp performer

What do you expect to pay for one of these engines? How are you going to source it/who is going to sell you one?

You can get >8 hp/lb out of a stock long block, so you must be getting this engine really cheap, right?

If you look up the HR12xx engines, you'll understand how cheap.

@motomattx
I'm looking at that now and you're right. The net pressure ratio is going to have to stay well under 3. Any hint of flaw or weak spot in the metal and its kapow! It looks like 400whp is not attainable but 360 looks doable. The block does not seem to be the problem, it's the head.

@rabenne
Yes, I think you are. The ECU mapping and VVT can be optimized for diesel fuel to make the power. I was basing my numbers on the high VE and an expected 3.3 net P.R. Lots of potential here for those with some patience to study.

Still missing it... You have done/said nothing to make me believe this would be a good idea. Yes the engine is impressive (when tuned by Nismo engineers), but you probably wont have access to their notes... The 1.2L from the Micra is a long, long way from being a DIG-T R engine. Good luck :thumb:
