If you honestly feel we can diagnose an internal engine problem from a poor description or low-quality video / audio sample, give it a shot.



I own a 1997 gst spyder and there is a ticking noise comming fron the engine. It comes and goes and it mostly sounds bad at idle. I have 97,000 miles on it and i change the oil regularly. I changed it about 2000 miles ago I need help to fix the problem.

I had some lifter tick I would let it warm up and it would go away.After the car sat a month took it for a ride today and this noise started.Still have no clue if it's lifter or bearing related.I started the motor removed 1 plug wire at a time still making the noise to me sounds like a bad lifter. I was using penzsoil 10w30.I put Mobile 1 high milage 5w30 full synthetic and a fram ultra synthetic filter and got some lifter tick after it warmed up it would stop instantly.I only put 300 miles on new oil and it's very dirty.

Just to clarify on the rod knock....If you were to rev the motor, does the sound get louder then slow down as revs go down ?? Can you post a vid while doing that.

No way bud ! :barf: Have you read the review on this forums about them ? I wont sit and bash, but if you were to read the stories lately about them, you would cringe. They were dropped as a supporting vendor from here recently. Save your money, there other vendors. Your lucky Buschur racing is in Wakeman,ohio close to you. Google says 31 minutes from your city. Must be nice, i wish LOL

Now as for that video, gosh idk if its being indoors that confuses me, but that sound is different as if its coming from top. Have you disconnected spark plug wire one by pne to see if sound decreases ?
If it was mine , id be so tempted to see if its oiling properly, see if its getting oil to top with open oil cap. Ill check other videos online to see..:hmm:

Ok yes i pulled the wires and it still makes the ticking sound.Buschrracing is local but they want $3000 just for a block ouch..Thanks for the help:thumb:
 
I have this winning noise coming from sounds about like its near the rear of the motor. Its from idel-all rmp ranges.
Car: 1992 eagle talon tsi with 1990 motor and trans
Shep stage 1, Act 2600 , regrinded cam, full 3 inch exhaust, BALANCE SHAFT DELETE, POWER STEERING DELETE, big 16g, evo 3 Mani.
The guy I bought the car from said its the timing tensioner is too tight, BUT the timing is spot on, and it doesn't feel too tight.
And I've also had a reputable DSM "GOD" tell me the oil pump.

Can I please get some help ASAP? :confused:
