I want to replace my 28 year-old original exhaust system (1G) with a bolt-on stock replacement. I bought the front and intermediate pipes using the info on this site, but I have no luck finding the muffler. I like the original look of the 14-1/2 inch oval unit with the dual chrome tips. Is there anybody that will custom make it with the hanger brackets and tail-piece, complete for a bolt-on application?

They aren't bolt on, and I couldn't find any that are since it is so old. I have a FlowMaster on my 90 but it is a single outlet on the back. Here is where I found those I listed. Good luck! My 92 still has the stock twin chrome tip muffler on it, I don't know how it has lasted all these years, or maybe it was replaced in the past before they were unavailable.

Could also swing by a local exhaust shop. I got tired of the droning straight-pipe I had on my 92 and picked out a quieter muffler. I chose a fairly straight-through design for my car, but they had a lot to choose from, including twin tip styles that resemble the stock muffler and are really quiet.

Thanks, #1990TSIAWDTALON. I like the Vibrant muffler with Round Angle Cut Tips. With a body of 15 inch and overall 23 inch, it matches the OEM pretty well. The inlet is 2.5 inch so the custom tail piece will have to bring it down to the 1.75 inch (yes?) of the intermediate pipe outlet. The Rockauto looks a little too “economy” to me. It looks like you have to add and weld the chrome tips and, anyway, you have to custom build the tail piece.
I received the front pipe but it was a 3 incher. I guess vendors selling DSM parts assume that you are racing. Anybody know if I can still buy stock sized front pipe for a 1g tsi awd?
Thanks for helping to keep this dsm on the road.

Thanks but the partsgeek product is for FWD non-turbo. I spent a day googling to no avail. I will go with the Vibrant muffler and look locally for a custom exhaust shop. I was told there is a shop with a pipe bender. Thanks for all your help.

I love the look of the vibrant twin exit. Should sound pretty nice compared to your typical ricer axle back exhaust folks, ROFL
I'm sure whatever muffler shop will have a step down from 2.5 to stock size piping.
