Hey guys took my 97 GST pretty much stock I have an intake and no cat, boost controller large intercooler and bov I have the 99 black box ecu was going to run some 550 injectors I got from some guy on here through the classifieds they turned out to be bad or way smaller than advertised any way he tuned it on the stock injectors and only pulled 261 at 16 PSI out of it it pretty much feels the same as before the tune I was running it at 14 psi he was having trouble getting it to idle right come to find out the pcv line at the valve cover was disconnected the whole time he was tuning should it have made more power than 261 I'm kinda disappointed I paid 450$ and I don't notice a difference

261 on what turbo? At 16psi that's about right. The black box can be challenging especially if its on speed density the constant hesi it hits you with can be annoying. Luckily I have been doing it for a while and can somewhat smooth it out. Dont expect crazy numbers at that psi, even 16gs make 340ish maxed out on pump gas. That's around 28psi tapering back to around 23-25psi.

Hey! I sold those injectors to you, correct? I bet my life they’re not bad.

If you want, I can pull my old tune that had those injectors and someone here can confirm those were working.

The last log I have before my upgrade is on post #17 of my build below. I started pulling the head on 2/22 (same day as the log) and sent them to you on 3/11.

You have no profile nor stated what turbo. Being pretty much stock make me assume turbo is stock T25. You're at roughly 7000ft. T25 is about maxed out at 14psi & more boost isn't going to do much but make the intake air charge only hotter, less dense, & more prone to knock. I think 261hp is respectable if my assumptions are correct.

Yeah it's a stock turbo and the tuner said the injectors were around 250cc by the way it was responding to the tune changes also he put on the injectors and didn't reconnect the pcv line correct me if I'm wrong but the person doing the tune should at least check out the engine bay prior to tuning right

Yeah man I think the tuner was just being lazy because he still didn't fix my idle problem I have to take it back Friday I think he may have been a little timid with the maps that are available for the car I'm going to get them cleaned and take it to a different tuner

There was never a question asked by PO so I'm not sure what I'm still doing here, but if you're taking it back on Friday then what's the problem?

There’s nothing wrong with those injectors. It’s always best to have used injectors cleaned for piece of mind but I’d have no problems throwing those in any car without cleaning them. You don’t have link so you can’t see my last tune on those. I was at 94% injectors duty cycle so that’s why I upgraded. If you do get them cleaned and flow tested, let me know how they flow before they clean them. If they say they’re bad, I’ll take them back.

I’m not a person to sell shitty injectors, especially to another member on here. I don’t live life that way, I promise!

Keep me posted.

They respond like 250s because using the blackbox the injector latency is a little off. I had my fic 1050s scaled at 750 to hit my correct values. I currently run the evo ecu now but i wouldnt mind going back to a 2g blackbox to utilize the 3d map of Speed density and antilag.

The reason I'm taking it back is because the idle is off. he's not putting it back on the Dyno, it keeps stalling when I press in the clutch and it's running like crap at idle.

And I did ask a question reread my post just didn't put a ?

Sticking my head in just to drop some stuff off.
370/390cc injectors are like ~250whp @ ~90% duty cycle.
450cc injectors are like ~305whp @ ~90% duty cycle.

I’ve verified those numbers for the 450cc injectors myself on a 2wd mustang dyno in community college.

If you had stock injectors and stock sensors —> MAF, cam, etc. I woulda just used the stock tune. You can’t beat the stock tune as far as reliability. I thought about cleaning up the map for better AFR’s because the stock DSM is stupid rich, but said f*** it.
Edit—> I just limit my airflow / whp out of my E316G by limiting the amount of boost I run with the stock 450cc injectors and I sit around 1.0-1.1 bar. (14.5-16.0 psi)

Thanks guys I was just wondering what power I should be sitting at and tk106 I wasn't calling you out I honestly have no reason to believe the injectors are bad like I said I think the guy doing the tune just wasn't up to it and I think the pcv line is what threw him off and went back to the stock injectors it was a bad experience for me if you guys think 261whp is what I should be getting I'm ok with that if not I want to find another tuner to do it that's the only reason I'm asking

I’ve never even done a tune, I have 750’s sitting in a box waiting for me to grow a pair.:) Just having lurked in these forums for 4 years, it seemed to indicate that 240-250 is the most you’d get out of a stock 2g with optimized maintenance and a “tune”. Before I installed my T28, the biggest performance gain I saw was replacing my leaky stock bov and the BISS oring.

261 at 16 pounds? That's like 290 to the crank or close to it. Don't be a girl raise the boost up. My evo 560 at 48 psi base pressure on rewired pump cat take 22 pounds on evo16g. All day. I am not going to comment on injector duty cycles and if having higher base pressure is good but those numbers are not that bad. Send it.

As a mechanic I find it funny as the person who is tuning should check the car and not the guy who is bring it in for a tune. What do you do for a living?

I'm upset for a few reasons.

1.) Your lack of knowledge.
2.) Lack of research.
3.) Your lack of info given.

I dyno'd my car and made less power than you.

Read. Read. Learn to watch over people who touch your car. If you dyno'd a t25 I have more questions I don't want answered.

Like WHY you would think injectors were bad? Making 261 on a mystery turbo. Beyond me.

I am a certified tech for Lexus I don't know everything but I'm good at what I do I put too much trust in what this guy was doing I am also new to tuning no one around here tunes their car I didn't know what to expect I kinda just sat back and let him do his thing assuming he knew what he was doing when I asked him about the rough idle he told me " well we're on a different map now so " I thought it was him just trying to get it dialed in he really didn't talk to me while tuning

Well I feel that if you are a certified tech then you should understand few things. I also know that a lot of dealer techs have no idea what they are looking at when they look at the scanner. They are great at fixing comment problem that's someone else has figured out, I have to give you that. I am currently thinking of going to the dealer but not sure if I want the drama. The reason why no one tunes their cars is because no one want to actually spend the time to learn how to do it. Everyone would rather pay. As a tuner it is essential that you actually learn the basics so you can set the car up somewhat good before you bring it in for a tune. A dyno operator will not go and diagnose a car because time is money and you should understand it better than any other person. Now that we got that out of the way, you need to start over before you bring it back to him. Fix all vacuum leaks and boost leaks. Install the 550 injectors. Rewire the pump. Set the base fuel pressure. Set your boost to very minimum. Make sure your bov holds at least 25 pounds. Clean TB and set base idle. Make sure you have no exhaust leaks. Make sure your ignition system is in good working order. Set your dead times and adjust your fuel trims. Take it back to the dyno. At the dyno do base pull and set your afr. Then start raising your boost and correcting Afrs and dial in the timing. I will tell you this, I would not went for a dyno with t25 and 550s and no fmic. All of your friends most likely have Subarus or shit box vw. You see Mitsubishi can handle some boost and don't necessary need a tune for basic mods unlike Subawho. I think you need to spend some time on the forums and do some reading. Only on YouTube builds get done in few days. In real world you run into problems.

I think the problem is that he has a black box ECU so you have to reflash the chip or to try and do what Link does easily. We all get used to us tuning with link and I am not familiar with the black box, even though my 98 TSI has one.

☝️Very well said!!! Get ecmlink fix boost leaks make sure you have no exhaust leaks and verify mechanical timing. If idle is still wacky check your TPS and idle control that will throw everything off as well
