What’s up guys! Just curious who’s out there pushin there luck besides me, I’m in a better financial situation now than I was a couple years ago when I had my motor rebuilt, at the time I did a budget rebuild with cheese. Original crank, rods, and pistons which according to the machine looked great, even with 132,000 miles. Went with ARP rod bolts/main studs and of course ARP headstuds. Any who I’m currently pushing 35 psi out of a dsm82 which the motor seems to be taking in stride, timing is of course conservative, but when do I stop LOL. This is all on a stock 90 trans, act 2600, and e85. I’m headed to the track soon to see what she’ll do, it’s been a few years but I can’t wait! I’m starting this thread because I personally believe the power potential in these factory bottom ends is what makes them so bad ass, any body can throw forged internals in their Kia and make power, but what makes the 4g63 so legendary is it doesn’t have to be “built” to hurt your feelings. I’ve had buddy’s that tore apart perfectly good bottom ends for a 50 trim LOL. I think what I’m trying to get at is if your engine is healthy put your money in maintenance first, then supporting mods, learn to tune what you have with the guidance from others here who have been there and done that

We will be doing the same thing Jeremy, as soon as the son gets the valve springs for his head. It is a stock rod, piston, crank motor with FP2's and he is starting on my 16g but plans to go to HX35 in his 90 GSX. It will be a couple months tho as he is busy on his Camaro rearend build.

The trans issue is torque, not HP. Once you get around 500ft lb of torque that where it all falls apart. Yes the HD 90 Jacks trans is the strongest but only marginally and eventually those fail as well. Dog box or nothing if you want to make and HOLD real power.

What's to tell about the block, the secret was it was a stock block. the only replaced internals were EVO valve springs and cams so I could rev to 9K.

Hey that’s awesome Marty! My son is currently 4 but I would love to still be wrenching on these things when he gets older, and @ist dwa that’s still impressive on the stock bottom end, would you say there’s definently more in the turbo beyond 35 psi? Obviously supporting mods play a role in justifiying that much boost, how much power were you making?

We will run 35+ on the Holset.

I do run a girdle, even on our stock rebuilds along with ARP main, rod and head studs so it is a little more than a stock rebuild, but is a stock bottom end. :thumb:

That’s so freakin cool man:thumb: Thank you for chimin in! I’m gonna try and freshen up the trans this winter with a rebuilt stage whatever from one of our fine vendors, till then I’m hoping everything holds together for a few runs:dsm:

Wow a lot of good power here. I ran a stock 165k miles 7 bolt to 50lb/min and 30-31psi with a bolt on hx35 for a few years. Motor is still togther and running in a different car to this day.
