Hey guys, I'm looking at repainting my front and rear bumpers as they're looking a little ragged over the years. I've come across the paintscratch.com kits and wanted to get some feedback on those. My bumpers were sprayed at one point during previous ownership and it looks like it was just off the shelf spray paint. It was a halfway decent job, but I want to bring these back to some shiny glory if its possible with the paintscratch kit. The other question I had was prep work. Are palm sanders to hard for plastic? I'm an absolute rookie at anything pertaining to paint and body work so if the group suggests its difficult to make this look factory nice then I'm not above just popping them off and bringing them to a body shop to be sprayed professionally. Thanks in advance for the advice. Cheers

I've sprayed the bottom half of my bumper before. If you just want it to be a good 20 foot paint job i'd say you could do it. But it's difficult to spray a large piece like the bumper with aerosol spray cans. The paint coverage isn't large enough usually to not create spray lines. I've never used paintscratch.com but i have used automotivetouchup.com and i was happy with their product and service. Idk it's ultimately up to you if you want to take this on, but I only did it after a lot of research. Cause you need to sand the bumper, clean then prep, then spray the primer then spray the base, then spray the clear, then wetsand and then compound polish for a glass finish. I'd recommend a DA polisher cause by hand just wont do. I think it's easier to send to a shop and have the turn around be like a week in stead of weeks if you do it yourself. Just my two cents. GL

^^Yep, what he said. The cans are ok for smaller trim pieces, but they don't really cut it for an entire bumper respray.

I did a tutorial on how bumper painting if you want to try DIY it.

Good info guys thanks a bunch. Thats what I was mostly concerned with was all the prep work, and being completely new to any type of body work the last thing I wanted to do was mess it up or put in all the time and have it come out like crap. Not having the means of really respraying it was why I was looking at those kits, but I'll definitely keep those in mind for smaller area touch ups. Great video though @ErikTande thanks for that. But I think the wisest choice for me is going to be just taking them down to a shop to have it done.

I took on my side skirts and door cover at home with aerosol cans. It came out pretty decent with no tiger stripes but I needed to apply heavier clear coat, which I ran out of. Thought 4 cans was enough but it wasn’t. Besides that I’m happy with the match.

I originally ordered paint from automotivetouchup.com but the color didn’t match. They sent me another mix which was worse so I said screw it and went with duplicolor. It matched pretty well.

Another thing to take into consideration is the mess you’ll make in the garage. Overspray city. Wetting the floor helps as stated in Eric’s tutorial. It’s all in the prep work and how you apply the paint and clear.
