Hey guys Let me start off by saying I have went through the car meticulously, I made sure all IC pipes are connected and there are no known leaks (I have had a 2g eclipse with boost leaks out the wazoo). What I'm asking about is a strange situation I have, I think my car is pulling timing due to PK (phantom Knock). I plan on getting a new sensor, but my question is that my car can free rev in neutral, it even sometimes can boost to 5/6k in 2nd gear. However it reads a bunch of knock (CEL is connected to knock sensor via DSMLINK) if i give it anything more than 20% throttle or even tap the gas at certain times. There are times where I have already built 5lbs of boost at about 4k and as soon as I try to do anything else the car loses power completely and feels as if it hit a boost leak but still is maintaing the PSI other times if I were to lug the engine it can build the boost but it only gives me a problem when i hit that 4500rpm range. I feels as if the car is about to blow up, I have also noticed that when trying to start the car it sometimes doesn't want to turn over (starter and components aren't beat up or old) I replaced the CAS and set it up the correct way after making sure the car was TDC. I did not set a timing light on it and figure that may or may not be the issue.

What ways can I check to make sure the knock is PK and not something serious the wide band says I idle at 14.5-15 and in boost I go anywhere from 11-12 (leaner than wanted). would this be a tuning issue as I am planning to take it to IVEY tuning in NJ as they have had a good relation ship with this platform.

please advise guys thank you.

Get a timing light and set the timing correctly. Take off the knock sensor, make sure it's in good shape, MAKE SURE ITS IN THE CORRECT SPOT ON THE BLOCK, and reinstall with a healthy amount of rtv on the threads, Report back.

negative; it had a boost leak that was addressed and it boosted fine until the CAS was changed (started to fail), but the apexi SAFC that was with it is reading all types of crazy, it reads 300rpms when I'm idling (800) and reads 1000rpms when I'm driving at 2k or better. It used ti not do this, I'm not sure what it is leading me to believe it is a timing issue i have never had an issue like this before. I had a 2g and had numerous boost leaks, although it feels like one i likely doubt it is.

thank you for your input.

will do sir, getting a sensor on payday (15th) I will reply by then. thanks

Hope you can find one! They are becoming more and more hard to find.
Any belts loose that could cause a slapping or noise that the knock sensor might be picking up, even something in the driveline??

Make sure that you are selecting the correct sensor type and cylinder number on safc.
The safc is reading the engine rpm as half means when you are at 6000rpm the safc is adjusting the airflow signal as you dialed at 3000rpm. You have to correct this if you are using it to adjust the air flow signal. Otherwise most probably you are sending less fuel at each rpm point than actual required fuel. If you are using it only to display some sensor numbers then it doesn't affect.

I got it guys thanks a bad knock sensor I was able to boost but sometimes it doesn’t and it’s because the knock sensor pulls timing because (I think) vibrations.
