Ive tried searching for an answer on the forums and this far have been unsuccessful. I have a 1996 eagle talon tsi awd that is 6 bolt swapped and built (most work done before i purchased). Recently had a check engine light due to the maf and obviously the car ran like crap. After checking a few things i determined that the previous owner installed a 3" gm maf-t in the ic piping. My concern is that the car has a vented hks ssqv bov and the maf is located before the bov insteas of after. The car has run fine over the last few years of ownership when i would actually drive it so what is it hurting being before the vented bov? Should i relocate the maf to after the bov when i install the new one? Any information regarding what it could be hurting ect would be great. Thank you

Shouldn’t do any damage venting after the maf, just wont run well for a few moments after it vents on throttle closing. When I tried this in my car after it vented the car went way rich and stumbled acting like it was going to stall.

Move the MAF to after the BOV. The way it is now will throw off the AFR values. Your MAF is reading air that is not going into the engine, thus making a momentary rich condition. This can make your car run badly, especially between shifts. It shouldn't take much time to swap the BOV and gm mass air locations. Try that first.

I don't know what your definition of "before" and "after" are, but the setup to run a GM MAF in blow-through is as follows: BOV, MAF, Intake Manifold. Also, The MAF has to be oriented properly, check that too

Thanks for the replies guy. I got a new gm maf installed and swapped the location with the bov. Definately made a huge difference in how the car runs. Now i just need to ditch the maf translator (has rust and corrosion on the board :( ) and switch over to the ecmlink cable. Than everything should he good to go.

Why not just ditch the MAF and go SD if you are going to run link?
I was able to get our 90 Talon to run pretty good with a GM Maf translator, but I had to figure out what to do first since I had never even seen one before.
Just throwing that out there.

The ECMLink Cable and internal calcs are night and day better than the translator module, you'll love it once it's set up. Everybody loves SD, but with the MAP sensor being an expensive and fragile component (I've had multiple OMNI failures), it's hard to argue against the value and ease of replacing cheap GM mafs (that usually don't fail) that you can probably snag at a yard for free or like 20 dollars.

I thought about switching over to sd but figured since i already have the gm maf set up and everything the easiest route to go would be to ditch the rusty/corroded translator and go with the ecmlink cable. Not to mention i dont really wanna have to fight with density correction when the weather changes. Also from what ive read on the forums about the ecm link cable thus far i havent really seen any major complaints.
