I want to build a 2.4 that is running around 400-425whp. Which route on the transmission should I take so it doesn’t come apart on me? Or will the transmission be fine stock? I can’t find much information about it.

The T350 is a bomb waiting to explode at your power goals. If you are going to stick with those transmissions, then you have to stock up on spare transmissions.

As for the T850 SRT4 trans, do not bother. They have plenty of problems in stock form, though they may have stronger gears; the input shaft is prone to snapping. As well, unfortunately MOPAR has essentially discontinued 90% of the parts for it, including gears and shafts. Hub and slider assemblies are now nearly $900 at my COST! I have carbon synchros for them and the remaining needle bearings and snap rings that were around before they discontinued the OEM parts. I am no longer building the T850 after the remaining parts stash is gone.

You really do not have any options for a significantly stronger gearbox to replace the T350 transmission.

So you’re telling me that I really have no options on a transmission to use? What’s everyone else using that build their cars?

Hoping and praying that the 350 holds or the 850 is still going strong. The other option would be a custom swap, but that's a huge undertaking for this kind of job.

If you wanted to do custom and have some cool factor, Nissan RS6F51H (b15 02-06 Sentra se-r spec-v trans) 6 speeds are nice and strong. Helical LSD, equal length axles, correct orientation, good ratios. IIRC, and @twicks69 can correct me if I'm wrong, the gearset is the same as the Evo 8-9 6 speed, just no AWD.

They're extremely affordable, but would require an adapter plate for bell housing and flywheel, custom intermediate axle bracket, then sorting out the outer cups/knuckles, as well as any track width differences. Not for the faint of heart.

Otherwise maybe @dsmcrzy or @dustyboner can weigh in on what they're using.

Honestly my trans is still bone stock. I’m around 300ish hp but I don’t really launch the car. Just spirited driving really.

OP you are really better off looking on neons.org at what those high HP guys are doing for the trans. I want to do a 3.55 swap to have some taller gears but beyond that I really haven’t spent a ton of time looking into it. I know there really isn’t a whole lot you can do as far as swapping parts out and the OEM line has pretty well dried up since New Venture (maker of the trans) has been bought out or closed its doors. I can’t remember what happened to them off the top of my head.

I’ll just do some more research and see what I find out. I’m not trying to do hard launches all the time just cruise around and have power when I need it

I've had decent luck with the stock trans around 350 whp. The last one I broke was due to a bearing starving for oil. On sticky autox tires I've never had issues. Maybe on drag slicks launching hard would be to much for it.

I’m not planning on launching hard it’s more if I’m driving around and want to speed up real quick the power is there other than that if I launch it will be every once in awhile

Not sure on the Nissan to mitsu interchange, but I am suspecting it may be similar, but definitely quite different specifically for components.

The T350 I would keep below 300tq if you want it to survive whatsoever.

As for Xtreme Fabrications T350 builds, I dont think they are doing much more than modifying shift forks and using a basic bearing /synchro kit from aftermarket. Most of the internal hard parts like gears and shafts and shift rails are discontinued as well from Mitsubishi and MOPAR.

I built T350 and T850 gearboxes for over a decade, all done now since MOPAR dumped everything or priced it so exorbitantly that it is too much to waste money wise rebuilding anymore.

I’ll have to keep that in mind. It’s going to be a slow build on the motor before I worry about a transmission due to my having a 6 month old daughter! But this weekend I’m suppose to be picking up a 97 Talon ESI for $350 that’s in really good condition other than the motor won’t run. The guy is tired of messing with it and wants it out of his yard! Luckily I live in an hour that those cars ain’t really wanted so people sell them for kinda cheap. Hopefully it’s an easy fix in since the car only has 96014 miles on it!
