So I recently switched to a .70ar housing from the .55ar on my 8 blade 58mm HX-40 and I was wondering what spool times some others are seeing. I have a log attached for review but it seems like I am not getting to full boost (34psi) until 5500rpm or so. I was just wondering if this is normal or if I should start looking for an issue. I fixed a boost leak I had before the log and it does not appear that I have any exhaust leaks. The wastegate has a 15psi spring in it and does not sound like its cracking open early. It just feels a little laggier than I thought it would be. Car is currently on a stock intake manifold and a ported t3 cast exhaust manifold. 9:1 compression pistons and e85 as well.

I have attached a 1-4 with launch as well as a sweeping 3rd gear. AFRS are .3 leaner on link than they actually are and im currently working on getting them adjusted. Thanks for the input.

My 7 blade in the .70 AR didn’t see 40psi til about 5600+ish

Check if it’s leaking boost behind the compressor cover on the snap ring though

When I boost leak tested it the compressor housing was part of the test. Seemed to be holding fine at 25psi. I guess maybe that's just how it spools. But I saw some we're seeing 20psi by 4500 and I'm only seeing like 11. Don't get me wrong it pulls pretty damn hard, but I just though with an 8 blade and 9:1 compression I would be seeing 35psi a bit sooner. Maybe I'm wrong though

I did notice around 6psi at WOT 3700 -4000 rpm my exhaust note gets raspy for maybe 1-2 seconds. Kind of like a Honda rasp. It's a deep note, then raspy, then deep again. And when that happens the spool seems to fall on it's face for a second. The AFRs seem okay though. Could it be a timing thing or is that normal?

I will see if I have a log on my zip drive, if so I will post it to review. It would be from a .70 T3 7 blade is the only difference.
I will look in a bit, ......at work now.
Yes......I have a job ROFL

Here is one I found. E85, 1650s, T3 .70 housing Open HX40, Kelford 264's .....
I am all in at 36 lbs by 4800. It hits like a freight train when it lights.....
I can't find a 40 lb log on my zip drive but there is a 41 lb one at home on the laptop.

Thanks! I'll have to look at it when I get to the computer. But what in the hell am I doing wrong here.... Everything seems to check out but I cant get to that kind of boost until 5500. Maybe it's because you are 10:1 and have smaller cams?

Those Kelfords are a good running set of cams. I am putting them into my auto build and the K272's are going in the red Profile car.
Keep us posted on what you think is going on. I am glad I am all in at under 5k.
My log was a pull to 8200 or so in 3rd at somewhere around 111 mph.

Yeah I would love to see that kind of spool. I'm brainstorming a few things at the moment. My best guesses so far are my cams need degreed l, my tune is off somewhere, or that's just how this thing spools. If I can get it to come in at 5k I'd be happy honestly.

I ran an 8 blade and it came in even earlier than this 7. Something is amiss, I just am not sure what.

Honestly though with the smaller cams and 10:1 that might be why you see it so soon. Huge difference in the set up.

What cams and What compression ratio are you running? I had a Evo3 intake also.

272 crowers and 9:1 compression. I actually just bought an Evo 3 intake mani and 1g tb but they are not on yet

Nice combo. Wish I had built another 2g head so I could use my Evo intake on the auto car but I built a 1g head for it :ohdamn:
The 60mm TB will help too!
Have a look at the difference in our cams also. Although those Crower 272s have a little more duration, their lift is ALOT less than the Kelford 264s....which helps me injest more air.
My car was in the 10 second range with that setup but I am going with Kelford 272s and a JMF Race manifold for her. She should click one off easy, I am hoping.

Interesting information to know.

Wouldn't the 1g TB and the Evo III intake manifold make me spool slower but flow better? I really can't sacrifice any more spool haha. I can see 20psi by like 4500k if I load up 5th gear but that's about it. Also my head is stock other than the cams LOL.

I had the car back at the track today and it trapped at 125ish. I had a blown out front roll stop and I'm on street tires so I could only get a 11.7 1/4 mile and a 2.0 60ft. I had a 124 trap with the .55ar so I feel like I didn't gain much other than lag. It feels faster but it's not faster.

I was spinning 1st and 2nd at the track and wheel hopping like a mofo. I need slicks but still. I feel like it should crack a 10.99. I'm also only seeing 3psi off of a 5500 2 step. It takes a mild anti-lag for me to get to 9psi.

I saw that 3 psi at the launch. Can you advance timing anymore on the antilag? Enrich the mix by 10-12%? I could stand on my setup and get a hell of a lot of boost, way to much to use on the launch. I have a small farm so I take my car to my "test pad" area that is grass and practice with the antilag. I've built 20 lbs before but grass and dirt flies everyware LOL.
My setup was giving me 1.375 70-90 times but I don't have a 10 second slip yet since my crank pulley walked forward and I bent all 16 valves. Still waiting to get that head back.

Oh I can make it see 20psi LOL. The 3psi was only 2 step not anti lag. I'm lighting up the tires with just that 3psi so right now I don't need anything more LOL.

I wish I could see the spool that guy in the video is. That's nuts.

8.5:1, HKS 272s and 60mm T3 HX40 and I see 40 psi somewhere near 5500 RPMs.

Awesome thanks for the input. That's about where I see 35psi so really that's not too far off where I'm at.

I see the video guy is running her on the edge on afr's....hmmm....reminds me of someone.... but they sure run there.

I dont get too alarmed when I see those AFR's but then again I'm on corn. So I checked over everything again and found the Vband for the 02 housing was a little loose. The clamp had stripped out. However that's post turbine so I doubt it was causing any slower of a spool. I didn't hear it leaking but then again with me now running VTA with my wastegate I can't hear jack LOL. Everything else still seems to check out.

A friend of mine just bought the dial for degreeing cams. I might do mine and see if they are off.

Corn here too but those lean afrs will make stuff "glow" :sneaky:
