Cars looking good curt , anyone gonna be out for cruise night? I still have a boost leak on my intake and just gotta set idle and check ignition timing

if i am out tonight it wont be after 9pm. at most a shake down drive. i have been analyzing logs for the past couple months so i am low boost/off boost until the temps warm up at night.

on the floor, everything bled after master cylinder replacement. reassembling engine bay now.

didnt make it out, some things took longer than expected.. like trying to fix one boost leak in a UICP coupler. an hour wasted essentially. close, though. coffee and a wrench in the morning hurray long weekends

I was out but in Portage. Finally met a few car people. I'm on my way to Nikola tuning in 35 min. I should be there all morning and free afternoon.

Fighting with the dsm and searching for bolts fo rthe maf adapter to filter LOL..

was trying to get it started and it just wouldn't. barely even fumbled every so often. plugs 3+4 had more fuel on them than 1+2, so i thought i fouled it during my attempts and my timing was off. every now and then though it sounded like something was working against the starter, as if it was firing out of order but you couldn't hear it. i thought maybe the starter was shorting since the wire/bolt boot was off.

decided to pull all plugs and there was some visible smoke out of a few cylinders.

so then i compression tested, throttle open and no plugs in any cylinders.

what. the. hell.
timing is still good, car ran solid last year but i did do a couple short hits of antilag (2 each less than 1 second) in the backyard and my last log abruptly ended so i can't prove to myself that it idled fine right before i shut it down for the year. the longest part of the log just before the last half second hit showed a solid -20inHg vac and no idle issues or stumbling.
timing was perfect on the old belt i took off too. i was careful not to slam any valves into the pistons but i did end up a tooth or so off every so often when i was adjusting the tensioner. i didn't feel any resistance when doing the belt but i can't recall if i still had the plugs fully seated during, making compression resistance mask valve/piston hand cranking resistance. i dunno, just rambling. fkin sucks.

looks like the head is coming off at the least. at the most, it's done for good. actually, given everything i have going on, the worst is probably the least as well.

really pisses me off considering the ~$1k i just put in for parts and shit this year.
really saddens me because i've been running this motor for over 6 years and i've had the car for a bit more than a decade.

Ahh crap man thats not good rooting for ya getter fixed man wonder what failed on her.

Not to be that guy, but if you'd be interested I do have a brand new OEM rebuilt 1g 7 bolt I am trying to unload in Regina, SK.

Its a brutal situation, wishing you the best in getting it back on the road.

Looks like rain for the next 3-4 days so chances are I wont be able to do shit all but today I took off the exhaust cam and bled all the lifters on that side. They were definitely more pumped up than the intake set, not sure if thats normal -- never really looked before.

What I find curious is the difference between each cylinder.. 30psi +/- 2 maybe, except one instance of 40.

Before I pull the head I am going to retime and do another compression test. Primed the oil pump with a drill for fun, though. I forgot how high that oil shoots when you dont have a valve cover on.
If nothing improves I will try to get my hands on a leakdown tester.

Well took me 7 hrs from Winnipeg to moose jaw... found out my transmission cooler was plugging up.. so cleaned it and ordered a b&m 8.5 cooler. Transmission is scheduled for rebuild in March .

Pics of my new daily driver

If you cant find a leak down tester I think i can get one from gimli you could borrow for a day or 2 wouldn't mind checking my motor out with it tbh LOL .

Did you try part source ? Or napa or piston ring or c tire ? they rent tools and I know they have compression testers and coolant system pressure testers .

Fingers crossed you figure this out I have 4 unbent valves you could have if you need em just let me know

Btw I'm still rocking that data logger things come in handy more times than I can rember !

salvaging some parts from my compression tester and ordered a regulator and one of these https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000COC7ZU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_R9f6CbSYF0VK6 to start. just a few 1/4 NPT couplers and fittings from princess auto and i will have everything i need.
damn rain.
in the end should cost about $50.
if it isnt the HLAs, the head is coming off anyway. from there it depends on what is needed..
if its a ring job im not going to bother putting the 7.8:1 oem pistons back in, and that seriously complicates this season.
if its just the head, i need better valve springs anyway, and that mildly complicates this season.

Yep Haha gonna bug my buddy to use his garage tmmr to do a boost leak test ROFL not doing this out side in the rain that comes and goes . Good ol Winnipeg

And minty I wonder if you could drill out a spark plug and add an air fitting to it with a gauge

it has been done, but by the time i measured for what inner fitting and risked the two halves coming apart, ugh.. and you still can really only turn it by hand above the plug hole so you are stuck with a rubber hose.
lisle makes good tools. $18 is reasonable, and i just add a 1/4 quick connect coupler that i have around.

Yeah I was looking into making one to do valve seals on a 1984 camero but buddy bought the proper tool to hold the valves up with compressed air LOL they didn't like the idea of using rope and turning the motor to tdc on each piston to hold em up although that's a push rod motor if I recall and dont know if that's somthing you could do on these motors as I'm sure the valve could drop into the cylinder abit LOL

if youre at tdc you arent going to shit a valve into the cylinder anyway, but it does help prevent piston contact when youre trying to pop keepers out.
