I got my 95 Eagle Talon ESI and it already has headers and an aftermarket exhaust. I’m not sure of what brand any of it is but it does sound pretty good. But I want yalls opinions on what exhaust systems y’all think sound the best on a 420a since I’m thinking about changing mine out.

I can't find it now, but there used to be a thread with clips of members' cars with different exhaust systems. If you don't have any other modifications, I wouldn't worry about this too much right now. Most any exhaust will be fine. I had the Apex'i N1 and I liked the look and sound.

mine sounded best with:
greddy header
gutted cat
stock mid-pipe
tsudo rear section
(engine stock compression)

the sound wasn't as clean after changing to an aftermarket mid-pipe. I would guess that was because of the stock resonator. Mitsu probably put alot of R&D into it whereas the aftermarket one just used a universal resonator that was inferior to the OE one.

with lower compression (turbo build), it changed the sound completely for the worst. I don't know how exactly to explain it.

I don’t have any sound clips of my car when it was non-turbo but the Borla ProXS muffler I put on it sounded good with out being raspy.

I also have the Tsudo cat back and deleted catalytic converter. I think it sounds pretty good with that setup. Mine is turbo though so yours may sound a bit different.

Hey guys, quick question. Would anyone happen to know the diameter of the primary runners on one of these aftermarket exhaust header for the 2g N/T?
Thanks guys.

greddy is 1.5" ID

Ahh perfect. Thank you. Did not mean to steal the thread at all. I was also wondering what's the best and highest flowing exhaust header. I talked to some of the vendors/fabricators here to see if they can fabricate me a custom N/T exhaust header but they aren't interested.

Thank you guys for yalls input! I’m thinking about keeping the dual pipe muffler setup that’s on it and going with a high flow cat. I’ll get some pics later on today so y’all know what I’m talking about with the muffler. It has a deep tone but I found out a lot of the noise that I didn’t like is an exhaust leak due to a missing plug on the heading and a missing bolt where the header bolts to the head. Probably going to change all the bolts to studs and weld the hole on the header shut since I can’t find a cap for it. I’ll get pics and a video of the sounds when finished!

What would be a good resonator to go with that will cut out the raspy sound and keep a deeper tone? I don’t wanna sound like these ricer cheap route muffler guys.

A thick resonator will not resonate as much. I like the apexi i have. I had header and went back to exhaust manifold. The header seemed better low end power slightly but i like the manifold. There is a calculation that i read puts equal flow at temperature to intake. Maybe differences from that would give better performance at different power band. Outside of that its a preference.... when mine was running. I am on here repairing it now. Its wierd that the calculation is based on temperature but it should be at a specific rpm. A greater flow would shift power band to lower rpm, i think. Should be both rpm and temp. The flow cubic feet per minute and the loose bolts are biggest factor. Loud does not make fast obviously. Any resonator, i think. Its muffler and excess cfm that make loud. Or exhaust leaks.

From what I read the resonator is what filters out certain frequency’s from the exhaust note. So I think I’m going to find a good resonator and go from there. I know excess heat and exhaust leaks will make the sounds different as well as length of travel and direction.
