My '99 GSX is having a strange horn problem (not working at all).

I think it is because I pulled the "factory alarm" fuse out but I have put it back and it still doesn't work. I had a problem with the door buttons on passenger side falling into the door which caused the damn factory alarm to go off every time I opened any door (HONK HONK HONK HONK), so I pulled that fuse out until I could get that fixed. I fixed that door last week and put the fuse back but the horn now won't go off.

The obvious conclusion is that that fuse must be bad now but I tried switching a different definitely working fuse from another circuit into there and the horn still doesn't work. I can't even get the factory alarm to trigger either now (but I haven't used it since 1999 so maybe I don't know how to make it go off??). By removing the fuse could something have shorted out or require a "reset" of some kind for that circuit that I don't know about???

I know this may sound dumb but does it work with the horn button? To get the alarm to sound off, roll down a window and lock/arm the alarm. with the alarm armed, reach in and unlock the door by hand(not the switch) and open the door. If the alarm is working properly, it should sound off. If it doesn't then you know that you would have to look further such as the door switches.

Thanks - The horn buttons don't work anymore. That is all I care about. I don't use the factory alarm at all (I have an aftermarket one).

The horn buttons stopped working when I disabled the factory alarm by taking the alarm fuse out (I wasn't expecting that to kill the horn buttons too but I could live with that until I fixed the door). So now I've got the door fixed, put the fuse for the alarm back in, but the horn buttons won't work anymore! Is that crazy or what?

I thought it had to be that alarm fuse circuit - I tried testing it the way you said, but I can't get the alarm to trigger anymore either, no lights flashing, no nothing. I'm positive the fuse is OK, and I even took the definitely working hazard light fuse out and put it in the alarm slot, but the horn still doesn't work. It's like because I took the fuse out, now nothing in there works? I don't get it.....the door locks, windows, etc all work AOK btw.

There are 2 horns: theft horn behind battery and normal horn in front of LF wheel. Try applying 12v to normal horn - if works check it's relay - if works check horn button (or wire in your own button).

Thanks! I had no idea there were 2 different horns. Weird that both stopped working....all I care about is the "steering wheel" horn though. If I can find the theft horn I'd actually like to remove it/cut the wires to prevent it ever coming on again (even though right now it seems to no longer work anyways).

Do you (or anyone) know of any photos on-line showing exactly where the left front horn is (is that driver's side or passenger side? which way is "left"), where/how to attach a 12v battery to it, and what/where the relay is (sorry but I know NONE of this, am not much of a techie at all). Any threads that I've found on this already are not clear enough for me (or missing photos).

- Normal horn is in front of drivers side front wheel, see attached pic.
- Unplug horn connector and touch 12v wires (or jumper cables) you temporarily connect from battery to horn terminals (either polarity) to test it.
- Horn relay is in engine fusebox, middle row, one on right (drivers side). Can swap with another to test.

Fantastic, thanks for the instructions for dummies (IE: me!).

In fact test the horn itself first as they usually go out after many years. If bad, test the alarm horn and swap with it if it's good. The relay can be plugged into the the 4th relay from the right (3 left of the horn relay), same row, which is the headlights relay in order to test it. Or if you have access to the horn switch wire (green/red), you can touch it to ground (which is what the horn switch does) which should activate the horn relay.

I had similar problems, my factory alarm was disabled and the horn didn't work. Wired it up to its own 12v source to a push button inside... which I keep under the dash until safety test time, then I tape it to the dash so the tech has something to push on to feel happy about.

I don't honk at people, I throw out the big girl middle fanga. Maybe a cuss word or two. You know, taking the high road... ha

Thanks, I am going to try futzing with it over the weekend or next week, depending on the weather. Also I have to get a 12V battery to do a direct horn test. I have a 12V emergency starter thing (a "powerall") but I'm afraid it might be too high amperage-wise, don't want to fry anything (or myself).[DOUBLEPOST=1408741297][/DOUBLEPOST]

It's funny, but I hardly ever used my horn when it was working, but now that it is not I have had like 5-10 occasions where I could have really used it (someone backing up almost right into me not looking, people sitting at green traffic lights because they are too busy texting to drive, etc).

Any 12v source will do (even the 12v battery in the car if you can run some wires to it). The horn (or any load) will only draw the amps necessary to run it - it doesn't matter how high amperage your source is.

Ok, cool, I did not know that! Thanks!!
