Hello im new to dsm tuners, ive been really into dsm’s and planing to get one next week. Its a gst but by the pictures im woudering whats missing. Ive notice that its missing a front bumper reinforcement and that it has shitty side mount intercoolers that is hanging by a rope. He has the front bumper, he says that the radiator fan is broken and needs to be replaced

I just bought my own eclipse and it needs some work too! If you are mechanically inclined and/or willing to fix some things yourself, you should be fine. Just take your time and do the proper research. If those are the biggest problems the car has then you should be fine. Try and find out as much as you can about that specific car before you make your decision. Good luck!!

It looks like he just put a larger pipe on the inter cooler for less restrictive air flow. You might just need some smaller piping for the inter cooler to sit properly.

The car looks like a basket case, but if you're handy with a wrench and ready for a project then it's not a horrible deal.

Keep in mind, if what you can see looks like that, what you can't see is bound to be 10 times worse.

That car was some kids playtoy I can tell you that now, no money was spent on anything, if the shell is clean in the prime areas its worth what he wants any day, the engine and transmission are worth more than that if they are good, do check it for rust really well and see if it drives.

Well when going to buy it, at that price, the first thing I would do is check for crank walk. You wanna make sure its not ticking, or if the crank pulley is moving inwards or outwards. It should rotate but not move side to side. Look at the crank pulley and rev it. Another good thing to check is if he lets you take off the intake pipe to the turbo, look at the fins and check for play in the turbine. Can also check for play in the timing belt. Those are a few important things I check when I buy a DSM.

Also check under the oil cap to make sure it's only oil under there and no thick grime. If it's pasty under there it could be a sign of blown head gasket.

You can find a replacement fan in the classifieds section on here so that is good.

To me it looks like he just put 2.5" piping on the stock intercooler to make it look more modified than it is. I bet the bumper he has is cut there to show off the piping.

But yeah, everything these guys told you is the way to go definitely. Good luck, I hope it works out for you man.

If there are no other options available for you in the area, perhaps check the surrounding townships. I live in Toronto and drive 2 hours away for my ride and had it trucked back on a bed. This cost me less than one close by but needed a lot more work. There might be a hidden gem out there that will cost you less than fixing that one if you are willing to drive further away or get a ride from a family member or someone else. Consider all options and weigh out the costs and risks.

If you can get the car at a decent price then your off to a good start. - I`m sure the parts needed to get it back in shape can be found in a wrecking yard or better yet Rockauto... They carry a lot of parts for the Eclipse. Wish you the best of luck....

JW14 has a valid point. This is my sixth DSM and I actually drove about 3 hours to get it. Im in Fort Lauderdale and drove over to Tampa to look at a 2G GSX with 6g72tt swap, and it was a real pos, did CL search while I was there and found this one that was female owned and nearly mint (also a DSM lover) so I really lucked out, even drove it back without an issue. Definitely look around, no need to hop on the first one you find.

I would 100% stay away from that car... Just looking at the photos you can see it was not taken care of, and appears to be modded by someone who did not know what they were doing. This will only cause you headaches in the long run. When you need to un-do another persons poor work it makes things much harder then modding a stock car. (They are still out there...) At the very least look for a car with minor mods added - intake, exhaust, gauges etc...
