Hi!

I'm planning to put a EVO 8/9 steering wheel in my Eclipse, I found the process to do it here, I'm familiar with, but most guides say that it's dangerous to hook up the airbag to the car. I understand it's dangerous. But most posts I saw about this are 5-6 years old, so my quiestion is: Is there anyone who hooked it up anyway and used it for a longer period of time? Is there any history of malfunctions in the airbag on a long term?
Thanks for replying :)

Nope no bad effects, i had mine in for quite some time and it never cause any issues

I have mine unplugged just because I don't know if it'll function properly if I were to ever be in a wreck. Maybe it goes off too late and causes more harm than good. Too many unknowns. I'd only trust the word of someone that had it hooked up and had and accident and experienced that it worked properly before i'd hood up the air bag, and even then i'd probably still be on the fence.

air bags are more dangerous then not having them, if you sit correctly you should never come in contact with it anyway but so many sit too far forward its dangerous, so unhooking it is the best idea to do really

Really the airbag itself shouldn't be an issue, the srs module is what will actually send the voltage to trigger whatever airbag may be attached.
It shouldn't be any different as far as the airbag safety & triggering than a stock airbag.
However the size of the airbag relative to driver position might be a little different for different models but really driver position is driver position no matter the car.

Not answering your question but where are you getting the hub adapter?

I had racing wheel on the car, so I just used the adapter from that, I needed to do some modifications to it, but now it works. It's also common to buy a 1G steering wheel and use its parts as a hub, but that requires welding.

Oh, and btw: I have the steering wheel in for a while now, but I didn't hook the airbag up. I'm having problems with the srs light on my dash. I found out here that the resistance on the airbag is 2.2k oh, but that didn't work, so I measured a resistance of mere 3ohms, now I will try that, to eliminate the srs warning. But I recommend the swap :) it makes a huge difference, at least for me :)

hey i know its been a few years, wondering if you have a description & pics of how you connected it using the adapter, I was going to attempt this but was going to go the 1g steering wheel route, don't have a welder or experience LOL, and it risks not being perfectly straight.

Hey there!

I did a quick search on google and found this 2 part tutorial video. It's a full guide on how to install the steering wheel. It is in Spanish, but it has english subtitles and it's pretty straightforward anyways.

But without welding experience or a welder friend this might not be the way to go... As 1999RSfwd said you can buy a wheel conversion bracket from Dudes Custom Parts that will work 100%. I also bought some stuff from him, he knows his stuff.
