Names Andy and i'm not a 2G owner yet so not sure if I'm allowed to be here without a 2G eclipse to display, but I am currently the owner of a 4G and looking to switch to a 2G GSX eclipse. Came to see the pros and cons I would have with reliability and things of that sort, if I could use a GSX Eclipse as a DD, or if I should keep my slow 4G Eclipse. Thanks :)

All depends on how much you want to spend on things and what you want the car to do. You can DD a 2g no issue, but as power goes up practicality goes down typically, which is the case with just about any car. It's may cost less and present less wear to modify what you have currently, depending on goals.

You can do quite a bit to a 4g eclipse using Evo 4g63 or Hyundai g4js bits if you have a 2.4, and there's quite a bit of power to he had from the v6 options.

What does your car have RN, and what are your goals?

I can tell you the stock blocks are slightly overbuild. Its no 2JZ but they are fun to tinker with for a new tuner because they are a bit forgiving. It goes without saying but maintain it and it'll keep you happy. my 2G TSI has quickly become my favorite car. Props to mitsu for fitting a 2.0 with a turbo under the hood but it doesn't leave much room to work with for things like changing the timing belt or anything else. The ignition and fuel systems are pretty straight forward with a few quirks here and there. Be ready for a few weird sized bolts (I came across a random 11mm here and there just enough to annoy me) and a couple of those pesky BSPT threaded fittings. Aside from that and VERY regular oil changes I have had a lot of fun with mine and would recommend them even if you don't plan on tinkering with them outside the stock layout. They are so much fun.
