does it go into 4th gear okay when the car isn not running?
Can you rev match it? Did you adjust the clutch?
Link to where you ordered yours? Just got the car so don’t know where to find anything yet. Certified transmission can’t help me they saidSounds like a damaged 4th gear synchro and/or Slider, I had that in mine but was the 1st gear, had to order one through jacks. You must be logged in to view this image or video.
Here's a link, just know those Transmissions have to be properly shimmed after rebuild, if you are going to have someone do it is wise to open it up first and do a full inspection.
When I did mine the only problem I was experiencing was no 1st gear engagement, but when I opened it, ended up installing all new synchros, bearings, 1-2 fork, 3-4 fork, and the 1st gear hub & slider which was my main problem but the other replaced parts were worned.

I’ve never worked on a transmission, is it difficult or?
Don't let others on here snow you into thinking it's easy (which ALL guys who have done it on here will say). I've rebuilt mine (never having done one before), but it's not for the timid or for those not willing to spend the time and effort (being retired I had lots of time) or following the FSM. Setting bearing preloads/endplay is crucial (and all tranny shops I've talked to won't take the time/effort to even do that, which is why I rebuilt mine after a tranny shop both screwed it up and didn't do the bearing preloads). You'll need a press and bearing separator. Here's a great article on how to do it: http://web.archive.org/web/20100627174759/http://www.twingles.com/ideck/rebuild3/dretranny.htm
Dsm was the first transmission I had ever done. It is not easy. I went in considering myself a very competent mechanic having built motors and made most major repairs to many cars. I was confident it was done right but i also own many tools and have 30 years experience with cars. If you fit a similar description you may want to consider the work on your own. If you've never even done a brake job, no way.I’ve never worked on a transmission, is it difficult or?
