the evo 4 has a twin scroll reverse rotation turbo. it won't work

As the others said, a straight bolt-on is a solid no. However, it's very possible to mount an EVO 4-9 twin scroll 16G on a DSM, as long as you get the right aftermarket exhaust manifold with enough clearance. Mostly tubular ones fit well, and they need to be for an undermount turbo config. The benefits of twin scroll are too good to pass up on especially on street/city builds with mild hp goals.

I've done some work on this and @MJcanada had a setup done, required a custom manifold for him to face the turbo in the standard DSM orientation. This makes for some very tight bends and odd angles.

I had a spacer made and got everything to bolt to an engine out of the car, but without some clever plumbing and a low profile custom intake, you are going to be fighting an uphill battle. Also you'd have to ditch power steering and relocate the alt. Here's a couple pics of my mock-up.

The best way, and still a way I'd like to try eventually, is @94awdcoupe way of using an Evo X twin scroll turbo, and get one of the Evo X eBay manfiolds, then swap the head flange to a dsm.

I bought mine from a private seller. The setup was built by revshift working with the guy. He made many more than just Mine. Mine was just the first of many. So there are more out there. They fit in the stock location just fine minus the a/c fan. It is a fantastic setup that's capable of allot with upgrades available.

I get the impression that most people who want to attempt this want to do it because they want a $200 power upgrade. In reality, it flows the same as the Evo 3 16G, so only benefit of the Evo 4 turbo is the twin scroll.

I paid $1400 for my manifold, vband out o2 housing, and full exhaust used. Previous owner was putting down 400+ to the wheels on it with e85 20+psi on 2.4 dohc awd spyder. The exhaust housing flow better than the standard single scroll evo3 at least the 10.5 housing does.

When you can make boost in low 3k and I've seen it start making positive pressure below 3k anything, I'd say it's deff a good upgrade. For autocross or short tracks it'd beat a standard 16g all day long especially with a 2.4. Better than using a t28 too.
