1G Anatomy of a 1g Knock Sensor

Since most of the goo had oozed out of my knock sensor, and WE ALL WONDER, whats inside that thing, here is the anatomy of the 1g knock sensor.
It looks like two thin copper washers, with a piezoelectric element (???) sandwiched in between. There is a positive and a negative, it would appear, and the circle tube in the middle is kind of like a paper towel roll when you put it up to your ear, but it seems to be plastic and is somewhat flexible. It may still be stuck to the center of the fitting with a tiny amount of goo that my pick wouldn't pull out without tearing it up beyond recognition. Threads for the screw felt like they were in that tube but may have just been in the bottom of the fitting.
I put that sucker in my oven and baked her at 500* so we could ALL discover what the heck is inside. I don't know what the goo is made up of, but it is a plastic/rubber substance that softens with heat. I dug out all the remaining goo and took these pictures of the "guts" so you don't have to wonder anymore, WHAT is inside that mysterious part???
Hope you Enjoy!
Marty

I want to add, that I spoke with an Engineer at Standard Motors about these and he told me that the "goo" is a gel that has some silver in it, I guess for metallic properties, so regular RTV isn't the same as the material that was in them from the manufacturer. He did tell me that they are no longer producing them (KS28's) and that the 2g versions were sent to the Philippians or Taiwan for further production, so that is why we can still get the 2g models. Us 1g guys are SOL.

Hey Victor :) I just happened to be researching for a new member and ran across those so I was hoping to help out fellow members. I have a handful of new sensors, from back when I saw they were becoming very hard to find! Glad to hear yours is coming along with progress! :thumb:

They do have some non OEM units right now that appear to be an exact replacement here as of 4/28/2021.
