Hello everyone,

So I have a 2g with a 6 bolt bitten end and a 7 bolt head. I believe it’s a 1g OFH. Just wanted some advice on her filter I should be using since they both thread on with no issues.

Thanks

You have a foward facing OFH and it looks fine to me. Gives more room for the down pipe and work.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, I just didn’t know if it mattered if I use a 1g or 2g filter on this housing. I believe it to be a 1g housing I’m not sure.

Use the factory Evo 8 oil filter from Mitsubishi.

Will this cause any problems as far as oil pressure/leakage?

You're ofh, as @1990TSIAWDTALON said, is what we call a "forward facing" unit, and IIRC it's off of a mightymax. A couple vendors sell them new, so whoever built the motor put it on, deleting the factory oil cooler (temperature stabilizer is a more correct term) and giving more room for down pipes and such. I run the same piece, good to have.

You can use a 1g, 2g or Evo 8/9 oil filter if you like, they'll all work. If you're wondering about brands, OEM is good if you have easy access to them, I personally use Wix, Bosch or Purolator in that order, depending on what available.

The physical deference’s between the K&N & Wix filter vary & are hard to make an apples to apples comparison. I prefer the Wix filter over the K&N though. IMO the Wix filter is one of the best.

Anecdotal experience: I use oem stubby as I like that they are sealed in the box. The Wix I have used in the past were open and I have found debris. $12CDN a piece from Mitsu dealer which is cheaper than anything else around here.

Wix are great filters from what I've seen and used, and just because you can get them cheap doesn't mean they suck, Rock Auto just has smoking deals on things from time to time. I don't mind k&n, but have heard a few unfortunate stories and the price is a deterrent.

That's a great price, but I'm not sure how long that would last or how well it would perform. I always use K&N, it works awesome and only cost $15. But that's just my opinion.

How long it would last? Do your oil changes on time and you wont have to worry about how long it will "last". Wix has been a great filter for a long time so you can doubt it all you want but it has been proven and tried over and over again. Don't over think such a simple thing, the best of anything is regular maintenance period.

I am not had any real issues with K&N either. However, I have found they usually require a need to be super tight on the filter housing in order to prevent an oil leak. This happened on my LS2 GTO as well. Seems like the rubber seal is "harder" than most other filters so they have to be super tight, but not 100% sure if that is the cause. Now I just order OEM filters from vendors on here for way less and order them at like 10 at time so I only have to pay the shipping once.

I oil change every 5,000 miles, even when using the best of products. So I do see what you're saying, but I prefer to use name brands just to be on the safe side. And maybe sometimes I can grab some extra performance.

What year? I have a 2006!

Just to be clear, wix has been around since 1939, k&n didn't come around until 1964. Im not knocking your preference but there's no statement that proves k&n is better or that any oil filter gives any sort of performance gain.

You're definitely right about that, but I use K&N for my intake system and fuel system and have definitely noticed great improvements in performance and I do see the quality in their products. So yes, it is my preference, but not without reason.

It's hard to find a more name brand oil filter than Wix. You must not be looking closely at all the different race teams & organizations which Wix is involved with.

I have a 2006 as well. Picture below is from the work car show a year or so ago.

Not to threadjack... OP just get any filter that you prefer and change them at recommended intervals. That is more important than the "brand" of filter you are using.

Nonetheless, it's just an oil filter. Not a turbo, not intake or exhaust, just an oil filter. Nothing to great to be looking at anyway.

One of my sons friends had a '04. I think he was running low 13's at our closest track, but he had to test out the old red Talon one night........in Mexico....:sneaky:
Sorry to also hijack...

Now back to this Oil Filter subject, just a tip from someone who has had this happen........
Put a big hose clamp on the oil filter, tighten it down and use some mechanics wire to wire it to something solid.
I had my oil filter come loose, I assume from all the vibrations that we have in these motors, during a pull.
I saved the motor by killing it immediately, but it hurt the turbo bearings since it kept spinning without oil. It is like safety wiring your oil filter so that it won't loosen up.
Word to the wise if you have a modified DSM. :thumb:

LOL, I have a "herd" of various "Unique" toys also. I think alot of us on here do but don't talk about it. This is a prime example of what we are discussing in the background. :thumb:
Maybe some "updates" to come.....stay tuned.
