I have come to the conclusion that my EVAP canister is bad for sure. I tried the hoses and connectors, all for a waste of time. There are currently no 2g eclipse' at my local junkyard, but there are a few 3g's (02, 03, 04). I was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not the EVAP canister was the same or even similar so that I could make it work? I'm trying this first because a new one runs me at least $200.

As far as I can tell, it was only available in 2G Eclipses and some Dodge cars, like the Sebring or Avenger (1998-2000). Are there any of those in the junkyards? If you can live with the CEL, I agree that it might be best to remove the whole system. In my experience, problems with the EVAP system are some of the most difficult to track and definitively resolve.

what makes you think your EVAP canister is bad
My check engine light was on, and the code said it was the evap system. I've tried cleaning out the hoses and electrical connectors so I guess that means it's the canister.

The earliest Avenger they have is '08 and the earliest Sebring they have is '01.

I'm curious why you think your EVAP cansiter is definitely bad. That code is for the vent solenoid. The FSM says it's caused by a failed solenoid, faulty wiring, a clogged vacuum hose, or a bad PCM. Personally, I'd try triple checking all the vacuum lines before replacing parts. I wouldn't be surprised to find a leak in a 21 year old car.

If the solenoid needs to be replaced, I believe 4669306AB, 04891423AB or 04891423AB might be the right part numbers. They're just as expensive as the EVAP canister brand new, but they were used in a bunch of Chrysler vehicles from the late 90's through 2000 (Sebrings, Avengers, Talons, Neons, etc.).

hit me up if you need any parts.
i pulled all the evap system off my 98 like 15 years ago.
Parts have been taking up space in my garage ever since.

For anyone wondering: These are the list of cars with the same or similar EVAP systems.
I'm not sure that's completely accurate. To my knowledge, the 4Gxx models (including the Spyder) used different part numbers for their canisters, etc. Maybe they fit and work the same, though.

It was the purge solenoid. The idiot before me put the 2 hoses in the opposite places, so I switched those back. Also one of the hoses didn't have a clamp so I put one on. The connector was also extremely greasy so I wiped it down and tightly connected it. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS OFFICIALLY OFF
