So I'm doing a new turbo that's top mounted and instead of using my side exit that I had previously, I'm wanting to opt for a hood exit with a 4 or 5 inch pipe. However, I don't want this looking hacked up like some that I've seen. I want it clean looking. However, initially it'll be with my stock hood until I can afford a carbon fiber hood. So I'm not sure what would be best for cutting it and doing it cleanly. Not to mention that I don't want it just pointing straight up, but more of a 45 to 60 degree angle. I'm wanting the pipe to sit pretty flush and only stick out maybe 1/2". I'm running E85 so it burns pretty clean.

Just wondering what you guys would suggest that might be good for cutting the sheet metal that'll do a good job. Was going to go with a hole saw but that won't work if it's coming out at an angle. Not wanting any trim rings going around it either. That just looks tacky to me. Just the pipe, and the hood. Nothing more.

The other thing I'm thinking of is what to use to plug it up in the case that I'm stuck in the rain while either at the track or on my way to and from and it's on the trailer, or just simply trying to wash my car. Thoughts? Thanks!

when i did my hood exit wastegate dump i first did a rough cut with a die grinder/ cutoff wheel to get the shape i needed and then finished it up with a good sanding bit to clean the metal up.

You need a good airsaw. Most under rated tool for doing jobs like you're doing.

I'd say a tear-drop style for both pipes would look good, especially if the slightly angled back and towards the driver side. For cutting the pipe, a band saw is hard to compete with.

If you don't care for the tear drop and wouldnrather something that doesn't corroded easy, you could do aluminum pipe, tho it maybe more spendy than steal in the sizes you need.

As for caps, some fabbed flat pieces with a 1/2-1" skirt around the edge that can fit over the end of the pipe would be my solution for bad weather/washing. You could even throw some rubber on the inside face to seal it better.

Good luck with it and show us what you come up with!

Okay so I actually ordered a nibble for the cutting, before I saw mention of the airsaw. Ordered piping and v-band flange last night. So now I'm just waiting.

I'm not using it on any area that has a support underneath Just the flat spot.

Alright, this is what I'm dealing with. Just need to cut it shorter on the turbo side and then again on the hood side so it doesn't stick out a mile. Been sick the past few days so it's hauled any progress.

The nibbler helped cut most of the metal out but needed a flapper disc on a grinder to smooth it out. Having to cut a little a here and a little there and gradually oval the hole in the hood as well. It's getting there.

Alright so I had accidentally cut the pipe too short so had to fix that and add some metal back to it. All that's left is to trim the hood ever so slightly, weld on an O2 bung, and decide if I want to paint the pipe, leave as is, or blue the tip. Decisions decisions.

This entire job was done with a $100 Flux core welder, measuring tape, painters tape, a grinder (cut off and flapper wheel), and a die grinder for the inside of the pipe.

Hopefully they don't. Lol.

Blued my pipe. When I heated up the pipe though, it made the weld visible where I had to add to the pipe. Oh well.

I bet it will "blue" itself :D

Looks good, I have a side exit and my neighbor complains all the time when I start my car so I am sure yours will complain also LOL. I like how it came out, hopefully the day I do mine it will come out like yours.

Some of my neighbors are loud all during the night or just let their yippee dogs bark non-stop. So I do this sometimes and wait for them to come say something to me about it, however the new setup will be much more annoying now. Yay. Lol.

Been trying to give y'all plenty of pictures. This completes it all. I'm happy with it Only thing left now is videos but currently waiting on a triple disk clutch to get here Thursday and find time to install before I fire it back up. Anyway, hope you guys have enjoyed it. Or for anyone thinking of doing the same at least.

Do you have a 2-step? It sounds like it in the video you put.

Wanted something new, wanted shorter piping, less piping to fabricate, etc. Mission accomplished on all. And the existing side exit wouldn't just bolt right up.
